I wouldn't be surprised if Saban warned against him privately

I've mentioned this before, but leading up to the CFP matchup against Washington in 2016, during the week Kiffin was making phone calls on the field at practice and actively recruiting for FAU.

As a result, during that Washington game he began signaling-in offensive plays that he had forgotten to install. In other words, players were getting confused pre-snap because they had no idea what he was attempting to tell them to run — and this was occurring live, during a national championship semifinal.

Thus, his presence with the team had become a distraction, and he was removed. (Sark then got promoted from 'offensive consultant' to OC for the national championship game against Clemson, which we promptly lost.)

I'm sure Saban respects his ability as a coordinator, but those events had to have formed some strong opinions of his afterwards, at least inside the football complex.

He can't recruit

I know you're being sarcastic but I've never understood this knock.

Why can he recruit transfers but not high school kids?

The truth of the matter is that his resources are limited and he values experienced transfers over high school kids.

Put him at a place like Ohio State or Oregon or Texas and I bet he'd be landing top 5 high school classes.

themetalreb: so, how far down do you think the media talking heads will say Ole Miss football will fall in 2025?

I keep up with all the SEC teams. Of course, most of the hype revolves around Arch Manning and Texas. LSU, South Carolina, and then Georgia as usual.

Surfing around recently, I saw this piece on Austin Simmons. Not much hype in the media so far. But I was impressed. He could surprise lotsa folks.

Its not sustainable because Oxford is a dumpster and Ole Miss is a dumpster program. Kiffin will have to bail after this season or the smell of rotten garbage won't come out

I'm honestly not sure...I'm expecting an 8-4 type season in 2025. Kiffin has made that kind of season his floor at Ole Miss. For OM, that is very good.

I've been looking over everybody's schedule, and it looks like OM has a favorable one, as they did last year. They do not have to play Texas or Alabama or Tennessee. Get LSU at home. Do have Georgia and Oklahoma on the road. But they play 8 home games.

I think the media will figure with Jaxon Dart gone, OM won't have the QB play they need. But that's where I think Austin Simmons comes in. OM won't be over hyped, in any case.

Win percentage is a pretty big deal, winning is kind of the whole point.

Hammer meet nail. 3 10 win seasons in 4 years at a school that only had 3 10 wins seasons prior to him being hired in it's existence.

He's a great coach for Ole Miss, I don't think that's in question.

However, your stat is just wrong and lacks context.

They'd had 6 season with 10 wins. And the majority of history 13 games wasn't the norm. They've had way more seasons where they had 3 or less losses.

Take 1969 for example, they finished #8 in the AP while having an 8-3 record. 11 games - and that's with a bowl win.

They aren't Vandy.

He hasn't even won a conference title much less made it to any game in contention for a natty. Programs like those want coaches that are proven winners at a bigtime level. He hasn't shown he can do it. Granted he is at ole miss and it's not like the other programs listed and isn't as easy to win big there but still, he has to at least MAKE a conference title game or something of significance to be considered for jobs of that caliber bc there are too many proven coaches out there that have.

Yes he is doing well in free agency with one year mercenaries, but that is not a sustainable model

I don't know about that. Seems to be the wave of the future in CFB.
