Who says Kiffin would be UF's first choice?

If/when Napier is fired. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any credible sources reporting this. Alabama had their chance to offer him and didn't. LSU had their chance to offer him and didn't. You can argue he would have been a better hire than Kelly, but the fact remains. He's a brilliant offensive mind, but he brings some baggage with him that might be a turn off to the powers that be in Gainesville.

What baggage? Serious question.

I’m hearing it will be Saban. He changed his mind and isn’t ready to retire yet.

I don’t know about baggage but the knock was he never unpacked his bags because he wouldn’t be anywhere long.

Rumors of having affairs with the wrong peoples' wives in Tuscaloosa. Being let go by Saban in the middle of a championship run. Leaving UT after one season only to fall on his face at USC. He's done well at Ole Miss by WAOM standards, but he's never won a championship. Why is it automatically assumed he would be Florida's first choice? Would he get the UAA and Spurrier's stamp of approval?

Kiffin is a rich guy. If he goes to Florida it's because he wants a new challenge and not because of money.

That's not the question. This isn't another thread about whether he would take the job if offered.

Winning covers a lot of warts. I imagine he’s in their short list.

It is because by all accounts he loved being at FAU. He still has a house and goes back to Boca Raton when he can (He talked about this a few years back when he would go on the Dan LeBatard show). Seems like a natural fit for him I guess.
It would be a dumb thing for him to do. Florida is a mess. Going through coach after coach over the last 10 years, what would give him confidence that he can get them back to the Urban days? They are impatient and wont give him long to get it right. He built Ole Miss on low expectations and has done a great job. Florida would not be the same situation.

This can’t be stressed enough. He’s got retirement money plus. Moving would be for fun and a challenge.

Boca is VASTLY different than Gainesville. The two places are not comparable in any way.

I’m shocked we’ve kept him 5 years…that is longer than everybody on this fricked up forum said he would stay.

I think he stays. He got a good thing going.

Really surprised that this brain trust we call the Rant got it wrong. There are so many intellectuals on this site.

Bama didn’t offer because he has baggage and pissed some people off while he was here. Rumor was if I recall correctly he cucked a booster. No idea of that was true but when fans started hollering for him that was what was said on message boards

Because he’s a hell of a recruiter and an offensive genius. He would kill it at Florida if he could remain as mature as he seems to be at this point of his career

I'm going with Imber on this one. I like Ole Miss, and I like Kiffin, but he's still very immature. On the one hand, he seems to win most of the games he should win (unlike most OM coaches), but on the other, he seems to tank against top teams because he does so much stupid shite early in the games.
The man has no common sense, and I'll give 2 recent examples:
1) The whole Coke on the podium disaster. I mean really, what adult doesn't realize Coke pays the schools big money for this, and making them look bad is a quick way to get fired. Big brain fart.
2) In the game Saturday, Wake got the ball deep in their own end with less than 1 min left in the 1st half trailing 33-3. They were having little success driving and seemed content to run out the clock, but NO, Lane started calling timeouts after every down. The result was that Wake got their 2nd score of the night, for no other reason than Lane's hubris.
He's got all the resources a program needs for a deep run, but I'm not convinced he can do it until I see him go toe-to-toe with another coach who has the same thing. He's never done that.

First of all, Kelly isn't going to be the next LSU HC to win a championship there. He will win a bunch of games and never win a championship at LSU. If LSU is happy with winning 9 to 10 games and no championships, then you are set.
