Possible Southern Miss candidates: Liberty’s Hugh Freeze (USM grad); Baylor OC Larry Fedora & Georgia OC Todd Monken (both former USM coaches), UTSA DC Tyrone Nix (USM grad/former USM assistant), Tulane OC Will Hall, Memphis OC Kevin Johns & USM interim coach Scotty Walden

USM can’t afford Freeze. He makes 2 million at Liberty. He doesn’t belong anywhere near the list of realistic candidates.

what's the back story on this? A guy with a winning record doesn't voluntarily leave on his own after one game at a school like Southern Miss.

I'm laughing at the mention of Freeze. The mustard buzzards aren't going to buy him away from Liberty.

I don't think the out-of-state folks understand just how much of a dump the USM program is.

Never seen a more arrogant school. Jeff Bower should be the first call and he should have never been fired.

They are the retard of mid majors.

You have to assume that Will Hall will be the next coach. They are bleeding money and cant afford much.

Will Hall is the son of a Mississippi high school coaching legend, and he had success at the lower levels of college football as a head coach before being an FBS coordinator.

56-20 at West Alabama and West Georgia. Five playoff appearances and three conference titles. Offensive coordinator at Louisiana and Tulane.

That's your typical USM-type school hire. Of course they are arrogant enough to go for Freeze to make a splash.

The key to State and Ole Miss being good is for them to leave each other alone to cheat and for USM to be irrelevant. USM typically picks up guys that would be good depth builders at State and Ole Miss.

Only once in history has State, Ole Miss and USM all been to a bowl in the same season - 1999.

That 2014 season where State and Ole Miss both went to New Years Six games? USM was 0-12. Got to keep those bastards irrelevant.

And stop snitching on each other.

Larry Coker has retired. God bless him, the college football world misses his genius.

Odd situation after 1 game...Sounds it was mutual.

And Botch Jones is the correct answer. That's about the best job he'll get again.
