Memphis is interesting because it’s not like it’s full on Vol territory. It’s a diverse town as far as fanship. It’s full of all kinds of fans, Memphis, OM, Arkansas, Tennessee, State, and even some Bama. Apparently some LSU too.

I’m sure much of a rivalry is determined by friends and family getting together with half cheering for one team and the other half for their school.

For me, it’s Alabama. I’ve attended this game home and away for years. My best friend is all Bama, and over the years we shared this experience with our children. The toughest for me, was the Championship 2011 game, the best was 1993.

Who is LSU'S main Rival?
I was at all of the games in the 80s and 90s and I'm glad we get the series back. But, for me, we were competing more in the 2000s and 2010s. So, the games with Auburn and Florida especially were the ones that I looked to every year and wanted to beat so bad. That was my early adult life and I suppose that shaped how I view things.

I 100% agree with your post, which is kind of consistent with the notion that LSU as of today does not have a universally recognized rival across all generations of it fanbase. There is lots of variance depending on when you grew up and first saw an LSU game. My first game as a young kid was the 1970 LSU/Ole Miss game, the famous "Archie Who" game. For my Father and Uncles, the Ole Miss and Tulane games would be the rival games then, and in fact some of that generation Aggie as well.

Tennessee isn't Bama's rival any more.

Depends on who you ask. I've met several Bama fans from the old guard who have told me they would rather beat Tennessee than Auburn in a given year. Fans who grew up watching Bama when Tennessee was good and Auburn was irrelevant.

For Alabama the answer is easily Auburn and Tennessee, no rivalries outside of that except for Auburn with a lake.

We understand that most Bama fans do not consider LSU a true rival, but I have to think the LSU game means more to Saban whether or not he would care to admit it.

Nick Saban. The man made LSU and more often than not, he breaks LSU.
