Very true. There is so much talent across the league right now. I could easily see someone from Florida, Georgia or Tennessee jumping in to the mix as well. Especially Florida and Georgia considering the offensive systems they will be running this year.

Tight end? Is that the 300 guy that comes in on third and four and blocks when we run it straight up the middle for the eleventh straight play of the drive? Or is that the guy who catches 12 balls a year?

Speaking of TE talent in the SEC.
SEC Media Day attendees were just announced for each school and there will be 5 TEs going. In comparison, there are only four WR's and three QB's going.

I've never understood why LSU doesn't try to get the tight ends involved more. It's perfect for that type of offense.

Wise, Sprinkle and Ellis

I really like the Sprinkle kid from Arkansas. He is big, fast and he can catch. Howard has the most potential from an athletic standpoint and Engram will have the best stats.

Just my take
Engram will be All-SEC 1st team
Howard will be the highest drafted.
LSU's TE's will block well...

Howard is the most talented.

How many are going pro after this year? The SEC is stacked at TE.

More recent at least it's been a lack of talent IMO.
Of course playcalling has never favored the TE here, but we havent had a talented receiving TE really.
- Dillion Gordon was an offensive lineman posing as a TE. The dude was over 300 pounds. Primary TE the last few years.
- We went out and got Colin Jeter from JUCO 2 years ago who is 6'7 245 but never seemed to be a reliable target to throw to this last season, nor posses any real receiving TE type talent other than being "oh damn, that tall guy".
- Desean Smith is probably the best receiving TE we have but his whole career has been injury ridden he has never really gotten to play much. Think he's had multiple surgeries and just doesnt ever look put together. He had talent, at least.
- Foster Moreau played a lot as a freshman last year but again is kind of in the mold of Gordon as an offensive lineman posing as a TE. He just blocks, that's it.
- Jacory Washington and Jamal Pettigrew are the young TEs who both look to be more the receiving type, so hopefully they play some. Both were 4-stars.

Howard, Sprinkle and Engram will all be gone after this year.

I expect Conrad to have a big year.

All good TE's.
I doubt Kiffin will remember he has a TE until half way through the year, so it's unlikely OJ will threaten for the Mackey.
I really don't understand that either. Howard could be an amazing target with linebacker matchups or having to draw another DB in who can't handle his size.

Engram, as others have said, is more of a WR at "TE". I feel like if this is EA NCAAF his Spectacular Catch rating is 99 but rather modest stats otherwise. Great blocking asset too. Having said this I feel Howard has the #1 claim going into this season.

Howard is by far the best IMO, Alabama just needs to use him a lot more. Engram again to me isnt really a true TE, just a bigger WR.

With receiving stats from last season:
Evan Engram, Ole Miss
38 catches, 464 yards, 2 TDs
O.J. Howard, Alabama
38 catches, 602 yards, 2 TDs
Jeremy Sprinkle, Arkansas
27 catches, 389 yards, 6 TDs
Those were the only 3 in the top 40 in receiving yards in the SEC last season. Sprinkle backed up Hunter Henry, the best tight end in the nation who had 51 catches for 739 yards and 3 TDs.
If I had to guess, I'd say that Sprinkle will probably have the most receiving yards since Arkansas uses the tight end more than any other SEC school, but Howard might be the best Tight End with blocking factored in.
