You're not very informed. Yes Saban was disciplined etc but the hire wasn't lauded across the southern media. In fact, LSU was ridiculed for spending so much on a guy who had one good season at Michigan State.
Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel, then a writer in Jacksonville, laughed that Saban called it the Southeast Conference rather than the Southeastern Conference. Most thought LSU overreached in hiring Saban.
It was Mark Emmert who realized that Nick something special and made the hire. People weren't beating down Saban's door back in 1999.

I swear if we get mike Grundy I’ll have to start pulling for A&M. There is no way I’m going to pull for a team that continuously hires people whom have known nothing but mediocrity.

Dino Babers is interesting. His team took it to Clemson last year and almost took it to us as well. His team looked more disciplined than us.
