Reggie White would be the most common answer, but it might be Doug Atkins. He revolutionized the DE position, and was also the conference high jump champ. His 17 year NFL career put him in Canton.
Dale Carter and Carl Pickens are also in the discussion, as is Manning.
Eric Berry is the best player in the 2000s.

I wonder how many well-known white players from back in the day would have even been starters (much less legends) if blacks had had the same opportunities back then that they do now?

You'd be surprised...especially players from the pre-50s.

Cam Newton is Auburn’s best player ever and any arguments to the contrary are simply incorrect.
Yes, Bo did it for four years, but Cam did it at a higher level than it has ever been done in an Auburn uniform.

Clowney or George Roger's but Lattimore as honorable mention because of injuries perhaps he could've been the greatest

Dont think for a second those guys weren't incredible athletes. Dont dismiss them because it was the 50s and they were white. Those guys were savage

Most will say George Rogers, but I way John Abraham. He was a monster for us on those 1998 and 1999 teams that lost 21 straight. He amassed 23.5 career sacks in spite of us having almost no other talent.
I thought of him immediately too. He was fun to watch on an otherwise dreadful team. Great background story to. For those that didnt know, Abraham didnt play or pick up a football until high school. With his size and length the football coach hounded him to join the team. He was not a coveted recruit garnering 3*** just on his size and athleticism. The rest is history

I'm not saying they weren't tough or great athletes, but we're talking best players a program has ever seen.
Not for a second do I think players like Johnny Musso or Major Ogilvie (Bama legends) would have been starters (much less All-American caliber) at Alabama if they had been born 20 years ago.

I think Julio Jones was the catalyst that started the recruiting prowess that Alabama has enjoyed. He may not be the best okayed ever at Alabama but I think he was the most important recruit of the Nick Saban era.

Largely agree with this.
It’s also why I’m always confused as to why 2011 Alabama is so highly thought of.
They were literally worse than 2010 Bama at every single position except for MAYBE DB. Maybe.
They just played a muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch easier slate of QBs/offenses.

2010 was one of Saban best and many Bama fans agree. 2009 was a year early but 2010 was also full of egos

Too many in that upper tier. John Hannah and Derrick Thomas are considered all timers. Probably one of them Thomas was essentially a defensive end, and the coaches asked him to cover Chris Carter in the 4th quarter against Ohio State. Man coverage against one of the best receivers of all time. That’s the kind of athlete DT was
DT was relentless, if he would’ve been dedicated to clean living as say Tim Tebow there’s no doubt he would have challenged LT as the best LB of all time....., which begs the question, how good would LT have been sans the coke habit?
Hell, maybe it was the drugs and partying that made them both HOF’ers. Lol!

Proof that this is an alter.
A&M's best player all time is either Von Miller, Kevin Smith, Jack Kimbrough or Shane Lechler.
A&M only has one Butkus winner so the edge goes to Von Miller.
