Lane actively worked against Pete to try to get many of the players on Pete’s team to go with him to LSU. He famously succeeded with a few. Saban never did that to Les. Every kid that was at Ole Miss when Lane left essentially had to be re-recruited in order to stay.
We don’t know what Pete will do in the future. But the situations are barely comparable because of how much the game has changed.

Of course we learned later on that Miles was a decent coach and recruiter.
