If you would have told AU fans in August that this season they would be playing for the whole shooting match in January but come up 12 seconds short, every Tiger fan would have taken that in a heartbeat. No way the BCSNC loss was their worst. Not even close.

Barner's season ending was a disappointing finish to an incredible season.

Bama's season ending was a catastrophic ending to a good season.

Did Monday sting? Yes.

But looking at the big picture, AU went from winless in the SEC to Champs in 1 year, and got two of the craziest wins over it's two biggest rivals in the process.

But Auburns loss is worse in my eyes

Lulz.

Auburn was a heavy underdog who led most of the game.

No reason for Auburn fans to be upset or ashamed.

Their team far exceeded all expectations this year.

I still believe LSU holds this title though.

I disagree. You didn't see nearly as much violence (if any) from our fan base after the loss on 1/9/12. The One Second Game actually caused death.

If Jordan Jefferson played for Bama, I wonder how many people in Alabama would be dead now.

He may have caused some suicides in Louisiana but it never made the news. Just some Krystal balls.

For the OP:

How bad did you feel after the loss to Tebow & UF in the 2008 SECCG?

Well, that's roughly equivalent to how AU fans feel now.

Playing in the NC was gravy for Auburn after going 3-9 last year. Now having said that my Auburn friends have been fairly down this week. I have been telling them, "well at least your team showed up and was competitive." I have been down since Nov. 30th and was hoping the Sugar Bowl would have helped.

It seems to me that it would be worse to lose two games you should have won....

One lost a close NCG that were the underdog in to a Heisman winner led undefeated team after going 3-9 the previous season

One lost their biggest game of the year at the last second, lost by two tds to big game Bob Stoops, and hired Lane Kiffin onto the coaching staff

C'mon son

I don't think either was their worst loss.

Alabama's may have been getting destroyed by 1971 Nebraska in the de facto NCG or either one of the close bowl losses to ND that cost them championships.

I don't give a rat hump what anyone says. Losing in the natty has got to be the worst ever. LSU and Auburns greatest seasons ever, never happened.

I would rather lose to Louisiana Monroe 13 times in one year then lose in the natty. No doubt about it.

Maybe its just me though. But then again, I've never seen my team lose in the natty.

The loss to AU was a big one, no doubt. It compares to the back to back losses to ND in 73 & 74 and to the punt Bama punt game of 72, the regular season loss to LSU in 2011 and the losses to AU and Miami in 89. The thing about big losses stinging so much is that you have to be in big games to lose them. In Bama's history there have been big losses, but there have been many more big wins in big games.

What? We went undefeated just a few years ago. The loss does sting, but let's not be dramatic.

I'm o.k. with losing to FSU, they were equal to us. The loss that really sucked was the LSU game because of the rain. I can handle a loss to an equal team but when you lose because of weather conditions it is difficult to handle.

To AU fans - what do you consider your biggest loss. if not FSU? 71 Iron Bowl?

Yep

Crazy how rain can deplete someone's defensive line

Both programs redeem themselves with good performances this year. Auburn was only a field goal away from winning the game after all. Did it damage the SEC name brand? To some extent it did when the most successful program from the SEC is shown up by a team that talked trash and then straight up beats you that's going to mean more respect for OU and less deference (by at least some) for Alabama and Auburn.

By comparison losses by teams like OU in 2004 were probably more damaging - especially because they had lost the prior year in the BCS NCG as well. LSU in 2011 was a bad loss for the program but it was mitigated strongly by winning against the same team early in the year on their field.
