The best offense or best defense in the country? Whichever one you pick the other would be in the bottom 3rd in the country.

Tough call. I have watched Auburn have one of the top offenses in 13 and 14, only to struggle mightily on defense and lose games that way. Very painful. I’ve also watched my alma mater have a top ten defense and have an anemic offfense and lose games. Of the two, having a top offense was at least entertaining to watch.
Pick your poison; stop everyone and hope to get a defensive score to win, or hope to have the ball last to try to win the game.

Defense.
As long as my team isn't turning it over a lot, I can live with them playing field position if they have the best defense in the country.

Best defense. If Florida's offense were in the bottom third, it likely would still be an improvement over last year's.

You’re probably not winning anything significant in either case, so give me the best offense. At least you get to lose in entertaining shootouts rather than 17-7 type ballgames all year.

Damn. I guess I'll have to go against my instincts and pick offense. Otherwise I'd be Florida. And I sure as hell don't want to be Florida.

I've been throught the Tubs years and the Malzahn years. Auburn has done a lot more with a great offense and shitty defense over Tubs' great defense and shitty offense, so I'll go with offense.

We've seen both ends of the spectrum, haven't we? Going from the 3-2 type games to games like the 2014 Iron Bowl where we rack up 600+ yards and still lose. Last season was one of the most balanced we've seen since 2004 and I loved it!

Give me offense. We've had it the other way around...

Gimme the top offense. You could still win the East easily with a bad defense. Missouri is the only team you would end up in a shootout with

Defense.
Nothing's worse than watching a defense give up 40+ on a regular basis, and in this conference, there have been far more "great defense, bad offense" teams win the SECC than "great offense, bad defense" teams.

Defense. A great defense will give a mediocre offense a chance once in a while, and can score occasionally.

Best defense, for math purposes.
The best defense would allow for my bottom third offense, which looking at 2017 the 83rd ranked offense of North Carolina still scored 26ppg, to be on the field more often, giving them more chances to score despite their mediocrity.
In 2011, LSU had the best defense but the 87th offense, and they won the SEC and were national runners up.
The best offense would score a lot of points, and quickly, which would force your mediocre defense to be on the field more often, exposing them further, resulting in constant shoot outs that you might not come out on top of.

Offense. Not even close.
Nobody enjoys watching 3-0 games. People do enjoy 59-56.
