That depends on where they are ranked .everyone seems to have a different opinion. I would go with Vandy and A&M .

I think you can probably eliminate the West teams because they will all have to run the Bama/LSU gauntlet, plus face Ole Freeze, two East teams and each other. If one of the four can beat the other three, then take 2 of their 5 remaining SEC games and all of their OOC they would finish 9-3, which would definitely put them in the overachievers section. I just don't think any of them can do it. MSU has the best shot, based on their weak OOC and drawing UK and Scarolina as their Eastern opponents.

Vandy looks like they have the best shot on the East side, with the easiest OOC schedule on paper and AU and OM as cross-divisional opponents. If they can find some kind of offense 7-5 or even 8-4 is doable.

A&M.

After back to back mid-season collapses nobody expects anything from A&M. If Knight can be a steady hand as the team' leader and keep thing rolling steady, we could challenge for West. But, if not, we'll end up finishing 4th or 5th.

This is the season where we find out in our offensive dysfunction came from our young primma donna QBs or from higher up in the coaching staff. Sumlin's job may depend on the answer.

Clearly Auburn.

Most are predicting us to finish .500 or worse. But if we just find an identity on offense then we have the talent of a 10 win team.

Honestly, looking at Arkansas's schedule, the two games I'm most worried about are actually Auburn and A&M.
I don't think Arkansas matches up well with either one of them. But that doesn't mean that Auburn or A&M are going to run the table either.

The reality is that the SEC West is f-ing brutal, and there is a good chance that none of these teams make it to Atlanta without two losses this year. Out of the West it is near impossible to tell who will go to Atlanta unless you wanna be trendy and say Alabama.

I'm going to say that Kentucky will exceed expectations the most out of all the teams you listed, and Arkansas will do better than anticipated as well. I think Kentucky has 7 wins on their schedule at least (meaning they may win 8 or 9), and Arkansas has 9, maybe 10.

Vandy in the east. They will have a very good defense to keep them in games. Their running game will help them beat bad teams like the other three in the division. Missouri's school and program are not the same as when they won two division titles...just bad karma up there. South Carolina has too many holes to fill right now and Kentucky just seems to be fair and not good at any position.

In the west, Texas A&M...so much talent on offense and the defense could still be good. Arkansas has potential. MSU will struggle on offense and Auburn has the makings of a horrible offense.

South Carolina

Based on preseason expectations, they would exceed if they pull at least one upset and make a bowl game.

We do because nobody really knows anything about are team. The majority of our rankings are being based on the fact that will muschamp is our coach and because of that we will fail miserably and because UF. That's all I got for you

Our rankings are shitty because we won 3 games last year, lost our best defensive player and offensive player, and most of our talent is brand new and untested.

UF.

Last year was a decent start but year 2 is often when the dividends of a new coach pay off.

I like Miss State to go 8-4 or so. Mullen always has them competitive, most teams will be overlooking them, and their schedule isn't terrible.

Our rankings are shitty because we're South Carolina. this team lost too many close games last season due to inconsistency on offense and defense. I could be wrong but I don't think we are quite as bad off as it looks

Well you hired Muschamp in the offseason.

If you had hired somebody less awful I might agree with you.

I'd say South Carolina...for a couple of reasons. First, because expectations are going to be so low...second, because of where their schedule.

They open against Vandy...which could be winnable.
They play MSU the following week (a week before MSU goes to Baton Rouge).
They follow that up with games that could be winnable against Eastern Carolina and Kentucky, then catch aTm between Arkansas and Tennessee.
They follow that up with Georgia (right after they have played Ole Miss and Tennessee back to back).
They go to a bye week, then play a winnable game against UMASS.
Their one bad draw is catching UT after their bye week.
They catch Missouri at home, which could be winnable.
They play Florida a week after the gators will be physically beaten up by Arkansas.
They play Western Carolina at home (which is winnable).
Then they will get curb stomped by Clemson.

They are in trap game position for a lot of their games...

Agree with this assessment.

Vandy won't be anywhere close to the best team on that list but the very low expectations people have for them and their OOC schedule makes them the most likely to finish with a record far better than most predict.

Texas A&M

Auburn

But both because expectations are low.

I agree with almost everything you typed there except ...

That generally does not happen. Sure, it's happened on both sides before but typically there have been very few curb stompings handed-out.

Last year, for instance, they were a 24 pt fav and the final was 32-37 in favor of the taters when they had their best team in decades and we had our worst team in a long long time. They played for the national championship ... we stayed home for the holidays.

Clemson will not curb stomp us this year - anything can happen in a rivalry game as intense and emotional as ours.

Its a crap shoot with those candidates, because the distance between success and failure for them will come down to head to head match ups.

I pick Arkansas for three reasons:

1) Which schedule is least likely to totally collapse into a dumpster fire?

2) Which team has the most favorable set of home match ups head to head with these other up-and-coming candidates, and thereby an extra edge in head to head games?

3) Which HC is least likely to go into a panic mode if things start going wrong?

Arkansas is either #1 or #2 in each of these categories, the only team for which it is true-- so, by default, Arkansas. Different schedule, and it might be a different answer.
