It’s an outlier sure but why would you not include it. It’s a valid salary.

its not an outlier statistically, IMO. its a part of the small data set. If sponsor revenue was included, sure, but not salary

Remove statistical outlier and then do it.
Matt Stafford is going to significantly alter that number. Bonn Miller too.
I could go along with this if he removes every top player for each team. A player is given a contract based upon the market system. If somebody makes more than other players you don't just arbitrarily throw their numbers out because it lifts the rest up.

Thank you. You are correct. People now want to manipulate the numbers by excluding some of the salaries...the ones that do not support their team, of course.

Looks to me as if MsState is in the Big 6. Next year Dak and Chris Jones an preston brown will get a huge bump.

I updated the OP with a list that eliminates the highest paid player from each school (averaged the 2nd-6th highest paid players). There's not as much difference as I think some people were hoping to see.

This is just how statistics are done.

Not really, it's just done sometimes. its not a rule to throw out the top. Also, usually the stats that throw out the top value also throw out the lower numbers as well

I said Outliers.
Not just the top player.
If everyone was making 20 mill and you had 1 guy making league minimum I would Say throw that guy out too.

Well it was top 5 players, so there are no outliers in that one. it is simply the top 5. The other one is simply a sum, so you can't throw the outliers from there either since it is a sum total.
The middle ranking was an average per player, that is really the only one you can throw outliers out of the stat. What determines the outlier on the low end? I'd sure bet there are several guys making the same amount at league minimum. And is there really an outlier on the high side? one teams outlier could be anothers' middle of the pack

Yeah, I wouldn't think there would be a huge difference. Certain positions would make a bigger difference than others.
For instance, a school that puts a lot of QB's would show better than a school that puts in linemen. Anyway, it took a lot of work to put this together, and it is appreciated!

So if one school puts one really good QB in the league and 5 Offensive Guards, you think the QB should be thrown out, because he makes more money?
Maybe I am misunderstanding you. The thread is about average salaries, not median salaries.
