Tulane is the worst atmosphere I have personally witnessed. Zero fan support in an empty dome. Yikes

Another bad atmosphere I've experienced is Stanford. Half full stadium on a beautiful day (UNC was eve in the top ten at the time of the game). To be fair, this was prior to their current success.

Duke

When I was visiting schools when I was thinking about playing college ball I went to Duke-VT

The stadium was full but it was 85% orange and maroon

Not a school but neutral site games at NFL stadiums are lame for game day atmosphere.

You are absolutely correct. UNLV is positively pathetic. I've even been to a couple of Las Vegas Bowls that were equally stupid

To make it rant related, one of those Las Vegas bowls was to watch UNLV beat Arkansas.

Duke's atmosphere has slightly improved recently with Cutcliff"s relative success there. UNC"s night game last year featured a pretty decent atmosphere. Duke, however, does need stadium improvements.

Their stadium is fine for them, sort of a throw back. It wasn't the usual game day atmosphere when we played there but there was a good campus atmosphere. They just didn't realize what was about to happen. Cameron Crazies did not translate to football very well. Still a fun day.

The atmosphere before State played MTSU this year was pretty bad. It was in the midst of the best run in school history too.

What this thread highlights is how uniformly strong is the SEC's game day atmospheres. It, along with the BIG, feature large flagship universities, with lots of alums who live in states that love college football. Factor in the weather, and the beautiful women in sundresses, and the SEC is the clear winner.

A lot of ACC schools struggle with this since we have 6 private schools. GT is like a private school in that it has lots of graduates that disperse throughout the country. Other schools , like UNC are traditionally basketball schools. Game day experience is a huge competitive advantage of the SEC

Very true. Georgia Tech has always had a huge out of state student population. Not many graduates stay in Atlanta since it lacks the types of employment opportunities that most engineers work in. The athletic department struggles with this and as a result, game ticket packages are extremely cheap compared to SEC schools.

WRONG!

I was shocked, coming from A&M, at ULL's game day atmosphere.

Tons tailgate, and as of the last 2 years with back to back bowl wins, the stadium has really been filling up.

Tech's main problem stems from going 2-11 in this century against UGA.

Either way who doesn't like getting Varsity incentives to go to Tech games? I think an FO and 2 chili dogs may be worth watching some good ole 1950s football

Arizona had zero game day atmosphere when we attended the LSU-Arizona game in Tuscon in 2003.

Has anyone mentioned Louisville. I admit I saw a game there during the Kragthorpe era and it was vs unranked Pitt when the ville was also unranked. It was terrible. Boring stadium, zero tailgating, arena football atmosphere, and fricking cold.

I think you have to automatically discount any game day atmosphere experience if your stadium is named after a pizza restaurant or anything other than a legendary coach or someone in your sports history.
