Aggy counts Galveston, Dubai, their third-tier shyster law school in Fort Worth and their subpar medical school in Temple in their numbers.
They would probably count the College Station school district if they could get away with it.
You see, aggy suffers from major little-dick syndrome and has to rig the numbers to surpass UT Austin, which capped its enrollment 35 years ago.
However, even without those numbers, the College Station campus still has a larger enrollment than Austin. But in doing so, their academic rankings and reputation have tanked.
Can you say "diploma mill"?

I never saw this discussion until I came to SEC Rant, LA doesn't care. Or it's just obvious. There are weird haters out there but in general we pull for other in state schools because it doesn't affect us (anymore, Tulane did some damage here and there over the years, and ULL had that one year in baseball).

I’m laughing too.
You are funny.
Troy has bragging rights on Auburn and bama.
That’s really funny.

Although Texas A&M is the largest and oldest university by far, there are two flagship universities in Texas. Aggie and our younger albeit more successful at football little brother Texas University
I’m not surprised aggy doesn’t know it’s own state history; while Texas A&M was teaching classes before UT, the legislation to bring a university to Texas, along with land reserved for it, was done for UT before A&M. A&M was initially supposed to be a branch of the university in Austin. That makes UT the older university of the two.
Aggy doesn’t even know its own state history — sad.

If the benchmark is where does anybody who is anybody send the children that they expect to become somebody, then in South Carolina the answer is CLEMSON UNIVERSITY.
It wasn't always true, I will admit. These days there is no question.

sure, if we exclude fedex and hca.
And the entire UT system. If they can count Vanderbilt Medical which is no longer associated with Vanderbilt University we should be able to count all of our campuses, the space institute, law school, med school, and joint operations at ORNL.

I mean, we're literally the Commodores. If you saw a flagship approaching your navy, which would worry you more, one captained by a commodore dressed out in black and gold, or one captained by a volunteer in puke orange?
You can ride with Cornelius "commodore" Vandebilt so named because he owned a railroad. I'll ride with Admiral "damn the torpedoes!" Farragut.
I'm sure the commodore's yacht is much prettier though.

You are funny in a stupid way, I suppose. The way you say that Troy has bragging rights on Alabama though they have never met on the gridiron is funny because it's stupid, like you.
A funny stupid, do you understand what I'm saying? Stop sucking the juice out of that crawdad's arse and try to figure out what I'm talking about. Concentrate.

UAB/AU/UA were set up to focus on their own speciality. That was actually pretty smart by the suits since the state has always been at a disadvantage economically.

A&M, I like y’all, but you have seriously got to drop this “co-flagship” stuff. It’s embarassing as shite.

a private college can't be a 'flagship university' of a state. it is not even affliated with the state.
i think that building is kind of ugly

texas is 2nd largest state in country in population...not surprising texas am takes a lot of students.
a flagship school is just the main campus of a university system. Texas AM and Texas are not in the same university system and both are flagship campus of their system.
a single state flagship means that state only has one public university system, such as NC and GA.

Well, not really. Kind of. There's a University of Houston System and a Texas Tech System, along with others. Edit: I mean, you are correct about the main school of the system being called its flagship campus, but keep reading...
Aggy is right that there are two flagship schools when you are using a designation that is purely a definition bestowed by the Texas Legislature, and it has to do with more funding.
U of Houston and Tech have been trying to get that "flagship" status, but have been unsuccessful so far.
It's a state funding thing. I think it's also called Tier 1 but that might be a separate designation.
With all that written, the state constitution mentions only one "main university," and that is what the constitution mandated as being named "The University of Texas" and subsequently placed by a statewide vote in Austin.
The "at Austin" was added in 1967 when the UT System was formed and when The School of Mines (later Texas Western, which was always a part of UT since its founding) was renamed The University of Texas at El Paso.
