The consensus was the Nebraska would be Champions and probably so.
They definitely would have been champions. They would have finished the season undefeated with a tie. Everyone else had at least one loss. Credit to Osborne for going for the win and attempting to leave no doubt.

IIRC, Texas is the only team on Auburn's schedule that lost their bowl game.

Lot more potentials than those two. Nebraska and Texas lost their last games, but in many ways their resume's are better than Miami and Auburn.

This would definitely be claimed if Auburn was UA

Auburn should claim 1983 & 2004. Both would be legitimate in my book.

Hardly.
Alabama has a stronger claim to 1966 than Auburn does to 1983 and yet we do not claim that title. Same thing for 1977 where Alabama has almost as strong of a claim to that year as Auburn does to 1983.

Ah, when #5 got to host #1 in their own stadium because of the bowl tie-ins. Yet people think things were better back then.

Y'all claim a year you were banned from bowling, might wanna sit this one out.

Miami. I don’t care what the argument is because the other option is Auburn.

That was one of the greatest games in the history of college football. I wouldn't defend this hill if I were you.

Sure, if you think it's better where #1 can't play #2. Or even #3. Or even #4.

So you're bitching that a subjectively ranked #1 team couldn't play a subjectively ranked #2 team a long time ago? You seem to forget that priorities 40-50 years ago weren't what they are today. Back in the day...the #1 objective of any major college football team was to win their conference and beat their rival. The national championship didn't matter as much until the advent of ESPN and 24/7 sports coverage.

We were the best team and played the toughest schedule in the country. We got fricked. We should be National champs from that year.

This is gold coming from a Bama fan.

Then you can finally stop crying about Bama's 1973 claim.

what the frick are you talking about?
1941 is the one that is an absolute joke.
ETA and how does this even involve a gator? Your football history started with Spurrier. You were an SEC doormat before then.

And yet still a bigger trophy case than Auburn. Guess you didn't think that one through, huh?
