OU would have done a lot better if the SEC gave them Arkansas or A&M as the 3rd rival instead of Ole Miss.

They are going to be better off than Arkansas and Nebraska who both joined a conference and immediately shed all of their rivalries.

I do think its safe to say the old Oklahoma is going to go extinct just not to Ark or Neb levels.

The question is why would an Aggie start this thread…..?

I think the OP wants tamu to be immediately elevated to OU status but that doesn’t happen in one season….

OU spend over 30 mil on NIL last year. That’s top 10 in the country.

They have to. Every year from now on. Those kids that didn’t have a better choice back in the day are going to A&M now. I’ll be watching the next few classes closely, but it’s not looking like OU will be returning to the annual top 10 in high school classes anytime soon.

You would expect to see a big jump in recruiting immediately after it’s announced the school is moving to the SEC. Texas and A&M got that, but it has not been there with OU.

OU looks to be going all in on the 2027 class. We’ll see how it turns out. The other major threat to OU is SMU and Texas Tech. These schools desperately want to be relevant. They will drive up the price in the region for high school talent.

Read this for a different perspective on A&M. A&M has their Nick Saban if they can hold onto him. And Trev Alberts doesn't get enough credit apparently. He is the shield for the coaches from the boosters. A&M is undergoing a culture change throughout the athletic department. A few things. The BoR wants to fire Fisher, and find out in the meeting that the Foundation has already raised all of the money for his buyout. Bjork apparently was dumb enough to go around the BoR where Stoops was concerned. BoR told him that just isn't happening. Boosters have had a TON of influence at A&M, with quotes from previous coaches in the article

That WaPo basically summed up the entire 21st century of suck for the aggies in the most succinct way possible. Every coach out there is talking about “alignment” and we finally have it. The good ole boy ags have finally been told to kick rocks

Very true. Just exciting that when we head to the Norman Reservation next year we’ll have more talent than you.

I was at the 2012 game and that was cathartic. But, the talent gap was embarrassing from 1998 until we left the B12. Never again

It’s this.

All this talk about blue blood…. This…. That….it doesn’t mean anything to an athlete born in and around 2010 with nothing but dollar signs in their face.

In college, there is going to be before nil and portal, and after nil and portal.

Actually, that’s exactly what it means. Things that have happened in the past are, by definition over with. Good memories yes. But that’s all they are.
They don’t have any bearing whatsoever on future success.

Now it’s possible to have a coach build a program up year over year, that has impact, but no one is going the Longhorns because they won a title in 2005. They are going there because they competed for one in 2024.

Recent success are the only ones that matter to anyone other than t shirt fans.

Aggrie has had a good 3/4 of a season against a weak schedule . But it is a bit premature to anoint them as a blue blood.

Aggot is having their once in a decade 10 win season under yet another new corch, against a weak schedule, and doing what they always do, which is pronounce their ascendance on the college football world and the death of everybody else.

You have to admire their patience and dedication.

A&M and it’s not particularly close. Way more $$$ at A&M. That’s what wins the day now.

You think all that death is a coincidence?

Or is it programs that are stuck in the past trying desperately to hang on to a game that is quickly spiraling away?

(Not saying ATM has it figured out)

Let’s see how the season ends… you still have to utilize the resources… Jimbo? Best class in the history of college football. I think Elko was a great hire and once he returns from maternity leave I think the program will continue on its trajectory but OU has proven over a loooong stretch of time they know how to win.

dangerously close to going the way of Nebraska.

Nebraska's glory days were based on hoarding prop 48 players. That was Tom Osbourne's strategy and it worked during that time. The landscape is totally different now. Oklahoma won nattys after the prop 48 era. They'll be fine. They're a good coach away. Having said that, money rules in this landscape and aTm may have more if it in the conference that anyone but the fighting queers of Austin. And they're struggling to beat the likes of MSU. aTm has the better coach of the two money powers.
