I don’t think either were improbable. Contrary to popular belief, Auburn is better than Alabama at times. Whether it be just that day or during that entire season, Alabama isn’t unbeatable.

Also, TideSaint is right. Weird things happen to Alabama in Auburn, AL.

I don't mean to slight Tua, but I think many good QBs could've stepped in and had success like Mac did. The offensive talent was just so good. Otoh I was surprised by just how composed Mac was in that environment. I picked Auburn bc I thought he'd get rattled and he really didn't imo despite the two picks

That game was so weird.

Auburn dominated it for a while, let the lead slip away, almost stopped Aaron Murray at the goal line (even though it was ruled a touchdown, it wasn’t), threw the Prayer in Jordan Hare, and Georgia still had a chance to win it in the end before Dee Ford ended those dreams.

It was absolutely nuts. Classic UGA/Auburn game.

And he played better than butter-tendon Tua. What’s your point?

Yep. In 2013 Auburn rushed for 300 yards on Alabama.

That’s unheard of. The win wasn’t that improbable...but they did benefit from missed FGs. That right there was luck

But the 4th and 1 stop and game winning touchdown was all grit, talent, and coaching

Improbable is not the word to describe Auburn's 2019 Iron Bowl win. According to Saban, the word to descibe that game was "unfair".

What? Bama was playing its second string QB in 2019. In 2013, they were going for a 3-peat and seemed unbeatable. 2013 was way more unlikely. This is a dumb thread.

I've been an Auburn fan since I can remember (6 years old in 1969). My Dad was a QB on Auburn's 1957 National Championship team. I graduated in 1987. My cousin played middle linebacker on Auburn's 2004 undefeated SEC Championship team before playing 8 years in the NFL. (Yes, I already have been made aware on numerous occasions that athletic talent must skip a generation or two... ). Just stating all of that to show that I have a legitimate point of view.

I will just say this. Before the 2013 game, I was incredibly confident. Not only did I love our offense and had a bit of confidence in our defense, we were riding the emotional wave still from the Miracle at Jordan-Hare. After that LSU loss, I just felt we got better every week afterwards. I just had this feeling we wouldn't lose.

Before the 2019 game, I liked our offense, but loved our defense. However, I really respected Bama's offense (even with Jones because of all of the talent). I just had this feeling that they would put up quite a bit of points on our defense if they were clicking. I wasn't sure if our offense could keep up (which is ironic since technically they couldn't). I did feel if their offense was off and our offense was clicking, then we could win the game.

2013 Pregame: 80% confident we would win
2019 Pregame: 50% confident we would win

Okay, after 4 Crown and waters, I'm calling it an evening at 2:30am. Great memories of both games, so thanks to the OP for the thread.

This thread is about which win was more improbable. An injury to All American QB made this Auburn win much less "improbable", as Vegas lines pretty clearly show.

Sorry you are unable to get past "DER BAMMER EXCUSE" and realize what the thread is about.

2019 was an upset but it wasn't even all that surprising given the circumstances.

Hate to side with Bama but this is true. Backup QB, depleted defense. Division was already decided. Game was at JHS. No big bowl game implications. I mean a win is a win but this one didn’t really matter all that much.

is it hard for you to read two and half paragraphs? I know the library in Auburn was never the same after you lost all those unfinished coloring books.

This was a great response. I was more devasted by this loss than 2013 because I knew the 2013 Auburn team was great. This auburn team was an elite defense with a mediocre offense that wouldn't and didn't keep up. It was just another God damn field goal.

I'm watching the 2013 Kick Six game now and Bama just went up 21-7 with 4 minutes left in the 2nd Q and I'm wondering how this didn't turn into a blowout. The McCarron-Norwood connection, that stable of RBs... However, 2013 Auburn had an awesome offense whereas 2019's really struggled against good competition so I'm going to say 2019 was a little more unlikely

The offense in 2013 tended to wear teams down as the game went on. The defense typically made just enough adjustments. The ending in 2013 was improbable, but if it goes into OT the money would have been on Auburn.

In 2019 our D was good enough to keep us in the game against anyone. bama was forced to use a back up QB who played great but didn't bring what Tua brought. I can't imagine anyone thought the 2019 win was improbable.

Looking back neither win was, but you'd have to say 2013 because bama was clearly the most talented team and healthy.

I’d say 2013 although Bama had its fair share of luck on the 99 yard touchdown

Blocking a short field goal and stopping Bama on a 4th and 1 from the 10 are clutch plays in the 4th Quarter and AU deserves full Credit. But those are still “improbable” plays. If both games were played again I’d be more confident that 2013 Bama pulls it out

I think Auburn's score to close it to 21-14 before half in 2013 was about as big of a statement as you can make. Bama actually looked like they weren't surprised by that, something you almost never see with a Saban team

Start of season? 2013. AU had the worst team in the history of the SEC post 1992. Bama has won the nattie in 2011 and 2012.
