UT should be much improved with the switch back to the 4-3 and Coach Jancek. I'll wait and see before making any rediculous claims but..

Cincinatti for 2012:
-14th in Scoring Defense
-12th in Red Zone Defense
-22nd in Forced turnovers

is encouraging

The main question I have with Bama's D this year is the pass rush (like last year). I know Hubbard has all the tools, but I haven't seen the production, or even dominant flashes, from him yet. Maybe it will click for him, but I have my doubts. TBH, I think Bama's pass rush will depend on Xzavier Dickson this year.

Corner could be an issue, but I think Saban will make it work there.

UGA's defense is a total unknown. Except for Jordan Jenkins, Damian Swann, and Amarlo Herrera. Jenkins will take the step to stardom this year.

Bama will be under 10 pts/game, have you seen their schedule?

I didn't say they wouldn't. I was talking more about when they play teams with the offensive personel to exploit them. (A&M, LSU, maybe UGA or USCe in SECCG)

If we can shave just 3 ppg off that average, it won't matter where we rank in relation to the rest of the SEC, because no one will beat us without scoring at least 20 points (like last year).

I'm more concerned with improving the turnover margin and third down defense.

I think we improve a good bit on the defensive side.

I'll go with 22.5 ppg and 7th in the conference.

Pretty big jump, but we bring everyone back, and I believe we will be more competitive overall and the defense will play harder in more competitive games. Also, I am expecting Lawson and possibly Adams to see playing time this year and help the D.

Yep. We have enough experience, depth, and talent we should field a decent defense. If we are not middle of the pack for SEC defenses this year, I'm going to be extra pissed.

We still have needs at MLB, but OLB/Star position looks to be fine, tons of upperclassmen experience and depth on the Dline that should be good by now, and a relatively experienced secondary.

No excuses this year on the defensive side of the ball for me.

Good gosh, if not for that 44 pt monstrosity our special teams gave-up down in the Swamp ... sheesh what a nightmare game that was.

I see a little improvement... Maybe 22-24 points per game.

A lot of us like what we see on defense. Tackling is better, Jake Holland out of a starting role, highly touted recruits are starting to step up (Kris Frost, Cass McKinzy, Josh Holsey, Robenson Therezie, etc.), and Ellis Johnson is all about getting the best players on the field at once. That's why he moved Josh Holsey to safety one week before the Spring Game, and he's already a starter. Oh yeah, and Justin Garrett is a beast in the new STAR position. I don't think Auburn has had a coach rave about a defensive player like this in a long time.

If you look at the scores we gave up:

Florida: 20 points (3 point loss)

Arkansas: 10 points (48 point win)

Ole Miss: 27 points (3 point win)

LSU: 24 points (5 point loss)

Auburn: 21 points (game was 28-0 before Auburn scored, 49-7 before the scrubs were put in)

Mississippi State: 13 points (31-0 in the 2nd half)

Alabama: 24 points (5 point win)

Missouri: 29 points (42-0 right before the half)

I dont give 2 squirts where we rank in conference.
They dont give any trophies out for ppg allowed.
The only rankings that matter are in the win/loss column.

That said... Grantham has improved our ppg each of the past 3 seasons. i want a 4th year of that. regardless of where it ranks. let's keep improving.

This will be the first year where Grantham's recruits are asked to lift up the defense. that could be a great thing for our scheme. we shall see.
