Used to be all kinds of recruits not making the grades. NIL solved that too.

John Emery is the last one I remember for LSU in '21.

Every player in the portal is academically eligible to transfer as well.

Emery situation was a little different
he wasn't ineligible coming out of high school
he lost some close family members during covid
ended up sitting out a semester and fell behind with the # of hours you need to maintain eligibility
it took him awhile to catch back up, he was having to go to summer school and intersessions to catch back up

Deion Smith enrolled at LSU but I doubt he ever stepped foot into a classroom

I really don't want to keep speaking this into existence, but I'm surprised that an athlete hasn't already sued for "the right" to eligibility without enrolling in classes.
As ridiculous as that sounds, you know it's going to happen at some point.

Coastal Carolina QB couldn’t transfer to Auburn because he hadn’t completed enough classes to be a grad transfer. He tried Florida and they couldn’t take him either.

I can't quite grasp how some of these kids appear to transfer and enroll at their destination mid-semester.

Coupled with some of them going into absurd majors (though that one is more of a classic).
That's why I would actually enjoy it when they would show an infographic during the game, and you'd see that one guy on the team with a 4.0 in something like Sports Medicine or Accounting. Yes, he's still getting tutoring and all that, but at least he was making something OF all that.

Many of us thought degenerat gamblers and players who had done more than flirted with the NFL would never be eligible to play but the former almost happened and the latter probably will....nothing is unimaginable in collegiate athletics any longer....
