Alabama Football

Kentucky Basketball

The two most important college sports.

Those are two of the premier brands in athletics in general...not just college athletics.

Even arky has track basketball baseball etc

Auburn basketball besides Barkley has been a joke

Baseball nothing iirc

Track? Tennis? Volleyball? Softball?

Auburn never reps these sports nationally that I can recall

Certainly I could be off base but I don't think I am

Arkansas has a tradition of spending a shitload of money and getting lousy results.

See "Jones, Jerry" for evidence.

Why lie?

Things can change, Auburn use to have the series lead against Vandy, for example.

Did you quote the wrong person, or did you try to answer my question about the other poster lying about the AU/LSU series? If it's the latter, post less.

I took it as a total athletic dept that traditionally competes for NCAA titles

Could be wrong

The greatest tradition in all of college football is the 12th Man. So I think of that, and who the registered trademark belongs to.

4 sweet 16s and 2 elite 8s is decent. None of those were with Barkley.

I don't think auburn or a&m

Maybe because auburn has one more SEC championship in football than georgia tech which left the SEC in 1965.

Not enough to make them overall relevant

I understand feelings may get hurt. Don't know why, but I don't think you could find many people outside of the state say auburn has a rich historical overall athletic tradition

The ones I think of

Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Tennessee
A&M

Edit: Ole Miss gets an Honorable mention

Alabama - yes.
Auburn - sort of.
Florida - no.
Georgia - sort of.
LSU - yes.
Tennessee - used to, until this stupid fricking thread was started.
A&M - absolutely fricking no.

Edit: Ole Miss gets an Honorable mention - too ancient to matter.

That's fine but then you include Florida which hasn't been nationally relevant until Spurrier took them to the top. Donavon made them relevant in basketball.

Auburn isn't good in basketball year in and year out due to the lack of overall school support of it. Baseball is actually pretty consistent until the last ten years. We have managed to win 6 conference championships in baseball and made the college world series a hand full of times. The only reason why you say that Auburn doesn't have name recognition is because we don't have a state name attached.

No doesn't have to do with that

I'd be more open probably if there was more strength across the board, there just isn't IMO

I remember some dumb frick aubbie trying to tell me one time that, "Auburn played in the first bowl game played on foreign soil, the 1937 Barcardi Bowl in Havanna, Cuba." I pointed out to him that LSU actually played in the first Barcardi Bowl some 30 years earlier in 1907, but he didn't believe me. Just because you're ignorant of LSU's traditions doesn't mean they lack them.

He was kinda right, but just not right about the right fact.

Auburn and Villanova were the first two US based teams to play against each other on foreign soil in the 37 Bacardi Bowl.
