Pretty obvious voters see Georgia’s natty win last year as an outlier. Alabama still gets the benefit of the doubt as the king to be dethroned.

Alabama started getting the "every year we expect them to win" treatment after 2012ish. So, if they go back to back in 2023/2024 I guess.

Not sure why they'd want it. It's pretty obnoxious.

RESPECT is earned, not given.

Alabama has done a LOT to Earn it, multiple times, many years.

Georgia has done very little to earn it, ever.

I think a lot of voters are worried our defense takes too much of a step back to remain at #1. I think we surprise some people on that side of the ball. Our schedule is fairly weak, and I'm not sure anyone knows just how good we'll be until the playoffs assuming we make it. Only real tests I see are Oregon, UT, and SEC Championship.

Maybe because, at this point in time, it IS an outlier?

When they win another 14 SEC championships, another dozen or so national championships and another hundred or so regular season games. Of course, that is based on the assumption that Alabama never wins another football game.

From a motivational standpoint, the AP did UGA a favor.

Given all that UGA lost, sixth is fair. I personally think that the UGA offense is going to pick up the slack for the youth on defense.

Note: I wrote youth, not lack of talent.

Is it a sign of “disrespect” to rank a team that just lost nearly its entire defense to the draft #3?

This is a little bit of a stretch though.

2020 - 2021 Returning production:
Tackles returning: 58.3%

Sacks returning: 20.5%

Interceptions returning: 0%

2021-2022 Returning Production:
Tackles returning: 43.5% (14.8% less than 2020)

Sacks returning: 41.8% (22.3% more than 2020)

Interceptions returning: 56.3% (56.3% more than 2020)

By the numbers, we should be in better shape than we were at this same point last year. I think there's a lot of questions to be answered, but we're not as bad off as everyone seems to think we are on that side of the ball.

First, it doesn't matter. Win on the field and it takes care of itself.

Secondly, there are a number of coaches/teams who can have things come together so they win a natty. To do that over and over (6 times in 133 years) is an entirely different thing because it involves getting players who have already won a championship to buy in to being hungry and work like they've never won anything, which is what Saban has done. Maybe Kirby will too, but not yet.

When they've piled them up one after another. Go back and look at teams that had great runs but won one. They were never looked at as Bama, Miami of the 80's and early 90's, Nebraska of the mid 90's. I'm not talking about winning one and 5 years later another, then 10 years later another.

Win 5 of 9 or 6 of 13. even if they do 2 of 3 they would be put in that company.

We are #1 until we are dethroned, that is how it works.

UGA will take over the number 1 ranking after LSU beats Bama in week 10.
