The difference b/w Mond and last Saturday is simple, Mond didn’t have to have possession. A&M already had possession, he did an equivalent of “downing the ball” like you see on a punt. Not saying Saturday night call was correct, just pointing out a difference in the two plays.

I'm not arguing one way or the other here because I haven't watched the replay but two comments...

Still frames don't always tell the whole story.

Is possession in this case similar to when making a catch? If the LSU guy possessed it before it was touch it was for a millisecond, does he have to make some sort of move to count as possession?

I know you are using the Mond play as a comparison but we all know the refs blew that, I am only talking about the play Saturday night.

My opinion the LSU player had a firm grasp of it and the only reason he didn’t maintain a firm grasp was the out of bounds Bama player knocked it out of his hands. He had both hands on the ball with his fingers wrapped around it as seen in first image in this thread
