USF is a job a coach takes as hopefully a stepping stone. Can’t imagine you bind yourself too tight. Can’t imagine this will be an issue
Can get bank/investment manager to set up accounts such that transactions can only be done in person, not on the phone or online. I had my parents add me to their accounts so I could check their accounts daily. Convince him to get lifelock.

Giles’s seems to be a good up and coming football coach. He has experience in the SEC with success as offensive coordinator. He is still at a point in his career that he is climbing and hopefully hungry. He will cost half as much as Kiffin, who is more proven but will put us in the same long term situation we are having to pay ourselves out of. It’s easy to say throw 14.5 million when it’s someone else’s money.
Historically, hiring or firing an AD requires Board of Supervisors vote/approval of contract. The President would have to make a recommendation to the Board. I thought this must have happened at yesterdays meeting for Rouse to be saying the interim tag was removed.

Chancellor handled Athletics in 70s and 80s
re: Wade Rousse wants to split the System President and Main Campus Chancellor - that’s good

I think it best to have a Chancellor for the Baton Rouge Campus. Someone that has the sole responsibility to improve/manage the main campus. Unfortunately what is best for the LSU system doesn’t always jive with what’s best for Baton Rouge campus. Let a Chancellor fight for the Baton Rouge campus interest.
Maybe just put it on market at an inflated price just hoping he wants his old house back
Funny at the end how he is trying to look for the host to save him, keeps glancing at him over and over

Board member in press conference said it was a mutual decision.

It would have been either F King or Tate, whoever was pres at the time. And the board at that time would have approved. Probably 6-8 members of current board were on the board then
Exactly, some would say it’s the best job because you can name your boss.
Because he doesn’t see it as a he’ll hole, he sees it as an opportunity to do what he has done his whole life. Many people retire only to realize that they just needed a break and at their core they want to continue doing what they’ve always done. Some guys are just coaches and that’s what they want to do. Hell, Pete Jenkins is in his 80s and still doing camps for NFL, high school and working with College Dline coaches. He’s gonna do it till he physically can’t. Saban looks uncomfortable on the set of Gameday and I think would rather be on the sideline somewhere than sitting next to Pat M. Guess we will see.

Key to getting Nick won’t be how much you pay him, it will be what’s your funding for NIL and what’s the plan to get the best players at LSU. Saban has generational wealth already. Yes, just like almost everybody, you never have too much money, but as you age, time becomes more valuable than money. The only way to tempt him to scratch that itch to continue coaching is to insure him he will get the best roster.

He should formally interview next week just to increase ratings for game day, For the next month it’d be the discussion of every radio/tv show. Suicide hot line in Bama would heat up, Gov Landry would be peacocking like Huey and backtracking all statements about state backing buyout clauses. With just an interview Saban could totally flip the College football world upside down.

The irony here is that Landry is mouthing in whataboutisms with regard to LSU contract when in his self proclaimed “I deal in the world of reality” there is actual tax money propping up all the other state schools. Can’t believe in all the interviews this week our press didn’t bring this up.
Question for our Governor
Posted by lctiger on 10/31/25 at 3:34 pm
Will he protect our taxpayer dollars by cutting athletic programs from our state schools that operate at a deficit and have to take money from the school to pay the bills? Looks like ULL,ULM, LaTech, NWst, McNeese combined for about a 25 million shortfall in 2024.

So once in place, don’t tell the coach what assistant coaches to hire and fire?
re: Ausberry in charge of the hire is going to be a disaster

Verge and the committee will do the legwork, talk to agents/coaches to gauge interest, find out what it will take to get coach x,y, or z. They will provide the board with feedback along the way and then be able to throw out official offer. Coach will then decide whether or not to accept or lobby his current school to match. If accepted formal rec to board for the rubber stamp.
History will have that Scott hooked his wagon up to Brian Kelly and went all in, only to have it blow up in his face. Chose the wrong horse.
