What's with laughing at UGA for hiring Mike White?

Don't get me wrong.
I totally get that UF feels we did them a favor.
But that's a good hire for UGA. Where the program is currently, getting a guy who has taken his team past the first round in the NCAA tourney the past few seasons seems a slam dunk. The fact that he did it in the same conference he's working in is a little whipped cream on top of the dessert.
If this is causing you laughter, you've missed a great deal of opportunities to laugh at UGA in the past.
It'd be like laughing at UTK if they hired Mark Stoops.
Except they have at least been a powerhouse in the sport at one time.
If White is able to do 75% of what he did at UF the past few seasons, he'd immediately be in the top 3 or 4 coaches in UGA basketball history.

because he sux. Nobody in the SEC puts less into basketball than UGA. I know, I know, 1983 final four. Nothing since.

If he sucks, then 90 percent of basketball coaches at the Div. 1 level suck.

Nope. I never liked him. When it was announced, I decided to be positive and hopeful. But I liked this when I found out he was interested.

He has 6 tourney wins since 2017. How many other coaches in the SEC have more during that time period.
I'm not trying to tell you it's a great hire or earth shaker. But realistically, who could UGA get like that.

Georgia wasn't looking to scare anyone. Again, how could we have done better?

Mostly just that Florida wanted to fire him. He is an improvement over Crean though.

Mike White started on third base at Florida. Program was already developed from everything Billy D created. He’s essentially taken the program back to first base now. Not sure why Georgia fans think he’s such an upgrade. Florida fans have wanted him gone since the Covid season.

No, it isn't. UK was a garbage program before Stoops and a perennial loser. He turned them into a respectable program.
Mike White took over one of the hottest teams in the country post mid 1990s and slowly strangled their program.
Crean has a better resume than the guy you just hired.

Yeah I get it, you guys needed a change of scenery. But what has Mike White done at Florida that gives you any hope he can turn around Georgia? At least at Florida, he had the brand name and past success behind the program to help with recruiting (which has started slipping). Mike White’s best season at UF still relied on Billy D recruits. He’s never been able to develop anything on his own. And UF fans have been very patient.
I get why on paper the move seems good but I dunno, he’s just not a very good coach. We shall see.

He may be a small improvement over Cream, but Georgia can do better.
