Name a current SEC HC, not named saban or smart, that has that high level success.

Why?

The thread is about midget Kelly.

This is a reasonable argument if you disregard the fact that 23 years ago, LSU decided to change college football and start investing more money into its coaching staff than every other program in the country.

Wait. LSU has the highest coaching payroll in the country? And you still came up with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron?

That’s like saying Kirby can’t win a title again because Richt didn’t.

And what y'all are saying is that had Richt won a title then every other coach Georgia hires should win one. It cuts both ways. Both arguments are dumb. Plenty of good coaches have never won a title, and plenty of bad coaches have won a title.

No. I am not.

Cholly Mac was coaching at LSU in the 1960's-1970's.

So...what you're saying is you have to venture into totally different eras to discredit LSU? Cool, got it.

Who was discrediting LSU? All I said is that just because Miles and Orgeron won a title, it does not guarantee that Kelly will.

He is the best grinder upon potential recruits this conference has to offer.

Close to it. Saban was a nobody in 2000 when he signed a contract that compared to Spurrier's.

Miles signed a contract in 2008 that paid him more than Saban's, and guaranteed he would be paid more than any other coach in conference if he won another BCS title.

For a time, Miles and his 2 coordinators were the highest paid trio in college football.

Aranda was paid more than 70 head football coaches to be the DC at LSU.

We came up with 3 national titles, 5 SEC titles, and a bevy of other postseason awards, so I'd say we did alright.

And since LSU caught lightening in a bottle with Miles and Orgeron it proves that LSU will win another championship wit Kelly?

I'm not sure that's how it works. I mean, LSU fans have been pushing this narrative for quite awhile. I think Kelly will be a good coach, but you guys insit on saying stuff like that, then it is just as sensible for other fan bases to say since Kelly couldn't win at ND then he won't be able to win at LSU.

Those lines of thinking just don't add up.

This is a game Kelly’s gotta win to call this season a success. 8-4 wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it’s also not why you’re paying Kelly $10M a year.

I would consider 8-4 a great job all things considered.

Look I said these many times on this site about why Kelly may not win a championship. There are a lot better SEC teams like ever than before. Only reason Les Miles and Ed Orgeron won was there only very few SEC teams that are worthy. Now there are a lot more and competition has gone up. Florida, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama, maybe add one other. It used to be LSU, Alabama, Florida on and off, Georgia, Auburn on and off, Texas A&M was always a step below because it was bad coaching and/or lack of recruiting at the very top.

Now SEC will have Texas and OU in the fold. It will get even harder. NIL and transfer portal have made other teams that were not good or able to get good recruits are now getting them. This makes competition a lot harder to get into the playoff.

And Saban. And it's not catching lightning in a bottle when it's 3 coaches in a row. It's talented coaches recognizing the potential LSU has and executing their vision. Kelly is just a little more detail-oriented than the last 2 guys were.

No it's not.

Kelly couldn't get the same caliber of skill players at ND that LSU gets every year.

He's got 10 years and a very willful admin. A national championship absolutely is the expectation.

I think he can win 2, but I'd be happy now if he just finds a better special teams coach this off-season.

And yet you use Miles and Orgeron as examples of why LSU could win with anyone. Seems odd that they are now suddenly talented coaches.

It is the same logic in reverse.

And if he doesn't, what does that say about him? I mean, after all...Orgeron and miles won one.
