I disagree. We got rolled in Atlanta, but we were 1 of 2 teams that had a chance at the title.

After the loss, I would rather have been in a BCS game. If you gave me the chance right now of playing in Atlanta vs at at-large, I'd take Atlanta everyday.

The only thing better than a SEC Championship is the BCS Championship.

Don't forget, UConn and Wake have played in the BCS...IMO, SECCG trumps making a BCS game.

I think it was the loss to a 6-6 USCe team that did it in for you guys.

Sounds to me the question is asking would you rather an SECCG appearance, or an at-large BCS bowl bid (without winning your division)

Personally, I would rather a chance at a conference championship then an at large BCS bowl.

take your pick. either one was unacceptable. but regardless when you are playing better football and LSU loses yet still moves ahead of you in the poll their is something fishy going on. OU loses SEC and goes to a title, Nebraska was just like us. it wasn't a ridiculous argument

Sorry, just as a general rule of logic I don't think a team that doesn't win its division should be eligble to win the NCG.

I don't care how "hot" you were at the end of the season. The beauty of college football is you're judged by the entire body of work, not your momentum.

This.

Shouldn't the OP have posted, would you rather lose the SECCG to the eventual National Champion or be the first SEC team to lose to Ohio State in a bowl game?

Who won with that record?

UConn and Pitt both went to BCS games with 4 losses.

Colorado won the Big 12 North in back to back years with a 7-4 record. Kansas State almost won the Big 12 North a couple years ago with a 6-6 record.

You're South Carolina, shut up

finished with 5 losses, no BCS bowl game, and lost by 50+ pts to the top two teams in the West.

Congrats on that miracle run

In all fairness to you and the Arky fanbase I can see how you can misinterpret the OP to be going to Atlanta and lose.

The whole purpose of this thread IS based off of the arguement of is losing in the SECCG better than getting an at-large BCS berth. We were having this EXACT arguement in another thread before Ms. Garrison brought it viral. The arguement wasn't at all about winning the SECCG game but rather losing it.

He claims winning a division, getting rolled in the SECCG and falling to the Peach Bowl is better than finishing second to the eventual National Champions in your division and getting an at-large berth to the BCS.

Since he isn't here i'll explain it to you
1. top two in the west beat you.
2. we both in joined in 92. It took you 19 years to get to the championship game and you had to do it when all the east teams that usually have a pulse were down.

What was the miracle? Were we not the best team in the East?

Has Arky never benefited from being in the West when the East was stronger?

Getting the SECCG means nothing though, remember? It took you 19 years to get to At-Large BCS Bowl, thats the goal, after all....right?

Sure, it means something, but means very little when your record is not very good and you do not have an overall great season.

We made the SECCG after being in the league for 3 years in 1995. We finished 8-5 that season and played in a shitty bowl game.

We made the SECCG again in 2002. Again, not so good of a year going 9-5 and going to another shitty bowl game.

In 2006, it was better. We had a solid team but lacked coaching ability. We won 10 games and represented the West well. We were ranked in the top 10 for a lot of the year then lost 3 in a row. Ended up in one of the best bowl games outside of the BCS. That year > at large BCS birth IMO.

This past year we were 2nd in the SEC in overall standings finishing at 10-2, 6-2 in SEC play. We beat the East division winner by 20 points. We got an at large BCS bowl birth.

2010 was a better year, with a better bowl than 1995 & 2002. Just because you make it to Atlanta does not mean you had a great year. We had a great year last year. Much better than two of the years we went to Atlanta.

It is the goal. If you get to a BCS game, it means nationally, you had a good year. Your program is respected, your program is in good shape at the present time. It also means you likely have less than 3 losses and a top 10 ranking at the end of the regular season.
