Seems like someone would have gobbled up West Virginia before the Big12 if "footprint encroachment" was a real thing. Football, not a big deal. But adding that much travel to the non revenue generating sports just seems counter intuitive to me.
I do not get it. The SEC is already in those states.

And we already had a team in Texas.
Are Clemson and Florida State the top brands in their states? Are they a packaged deal?

Agreed. Now the secRant? that's another story.

Nothing other than a more difficult schedule while the Big-12/10 cupid shuffle their way to the playoffs.

Clemson and Florida St are two of the biggest brand names not currently in the SEC or Big 10. They’re highly competitive programs that create compelling matchups with premier venues within the SEC’s footprint. They’re cultural fits, teams tv audiences want to watch, they have traditional rivals in the SEC, and they’re actually closer road trip desitinations than many current members. If the SEC has to expand, who could possibly be a better candidate In football?

SEC = content
B1G = market

FSU is a big brand with a lot of fans
Clemson I don’t think brings much however. Historically they’re meh

I don't think ohio st is in the SEC, so honestly, you're just a visitor... and as such, please sit in the back of the classroom and STFU.

I'm aware. But this is shifting the goalposts from your original statement.

They're the top brands in their respective TV markets, if that's what we're discussing.

Putting the value that both FSU & Clemson bring aside. What the hell does Ole Miss, Miss St, Missouri, and Vandy bring/have? I’ll wait.
Again it’s not about footprint…it’s about eyeballs on games now. FSU & Clemson bring more eyeballs than everyone not named Bama, Texas, Ga, and Gay&M.
In reality UNC and one of the VA schools will be coming with us. Duke & both VA schools are a possibility.

Absolutely beautiful area though. And since the campus was modeled after Mississippi State, of course it has an incredible campus as well.
"In his will, Clemson explicitly stated he wanted the school to be modeled after what is now Mississippi State University: "This institution, I desire, to be under the control and management of a board of trustees, a part of whom are hereinafter appointed, and to be modeled after the Agricultural College of Mississippi as far as practicable"

I keep seeing comments like this.. so this isn’t aimed at just your comment.
I think a lot of people are too focused on the short term vs long term. Unfortunately, Sankey made this same decision with the CBS deal.
The CBS deal was less money.. but it gave the SEC nationwide exposure. It helped create the brand that the SEC is today.
The SEC deal starting in 2024 doesn’t last forever.. so even if it is the same $$ amount before and after adding Texas, Oklahoma, FSU & Clemson.. it will help create brand value and the great exposure that comes from all of those games will create a lot of extra value.
Who knows if this game will exist 50 or 100 years from now.. but you have to make decisions like it will still be played then..
The TV markets will be dominated by the SEC.
Think of the inventory.
Alabama vs Oklahoma
Alabama vs FSU
Alabama vs Texas
Alabama vs Clemson
LSU vs those 4
Georgia vs those 4
Florida vs those 4
etc etc
on top of the already great games..
We should be able to have 2 or more amazing games every week of the year. We may need to add games on Sunday Night or Thursday Night..
but the SEC will be a monster.
Just my opinion. There is plenty of money for everyone. The brand is all that matters now. The money will follow and be significantly more than it is now.

Texas and Oklahoma alone should have given the league a bump but ESPN does not have the money.

there is a serious flaw in your argument..
No one wants to see FSU vs Wake Forest or Texas vs Baylor.. etc etc
But they do want to see FSU vs LSU and Texas vs Alabama etc etc
