I was at Auburn from '87 to '91 and the schedule, week to week, was usually much more exciting. I also miss the Wreck Tech traditions.

Sorry you were too little to enjoy it.

Yeah, Auburn is tired of being dominated by LSU most of the time.

Auburn played 55 straight road games against Georgia Tech. That's crazy. They were in the same conference too. Auburn tried to get them to play at our stadium and SEC was like, nope. People forget that Ga Tech was Auburn's biggest rival back in the day. It was a mean, nasty rivalry too.

The SEC didn't set the schedule back in that time--it was simply up to the schools. The only requirement was that you play a minimum of five league games to be eligible for the title.

I'm sure the game was played in Atlanta for money. Back then, the home and visiting teams used to split the gate 50/50, so Auburn would have made more money making the short trip to Atlanta than they would have by having GT come to Auburn. And, I'm sure it was good for Auburn recruiting to play in Atlanta.

Also, remember that during that same time period, UGA played Auburn every year in Columbus, which I suspect was as much about UGA wanting to have some presence in that part of the state as anything else.

That's true. The LSU game always seems to be the most physical game we play every year.

If Auburn were to schedule a non-conference game with GT, which would be facilitated by keeping an 8 game conference schedule, I could get you Bama, Florida, and Georgia every year, and Tennessee every other year, by eliminating divisions and going with a schedule like we do in basketball where we have 3 permanent opponents, and rotate the rest. Auburn would play Bama, Florida, and Georgia every year, and they'd play UT (like everyone else) every other year.

Georgia Tech is not an exciting program to play anymore.

Didn’t Florida suck until Spurrier got there?

FSU (National Champions)
Clemson (National Champions)
Georgia Tech (National Champions)
Alabama (National Champions)
LSU (National Champions)
Georgia (National Champions)
Florida (National Champions)
Tennessee (National Champions)

All great series that were played year after year for a decade minimum given scheduling "rules" back then.

Bring it back, my Baws.

Stop penalizing teams for playing a hard schedule. This is a fun sport. Keep it that way.

This whole "lose one game and you are dead before week 2" mentality needs to stop.

This is College Football, not the Hunger Games.

You Auburn fans sure do like to complain and whine.

If you’d help us get rid of the permanent cross division game, then your schedule would be more like you want.

And why do you want to play GT each year OOC? That would be like us playing Rice each year.

By the way, hasn’t A&M played LSU more than Auburn has?

Auburn vs. Georgia Tech would be nothing like Texas A&M versus Rice.

Auburn and Georgia Tech played in the 1800's while Victoria was still alive (d. 1901) and 40 years before the SEC was even created in '32.

We played each other before an automobile was "invented" by Henry Ford in 1908 with the Model-T.

And, we played all of those first matchups without the luxury of a "modern phenomenon" called "Electricity (banned by federal law at the time, due to the Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison fiasco). Auburn was still using kerosine laterns and shoveling coal every morning in order to get that Engineering Degree whilst your whole University was 16 years old at the time. (Texas A&M est. 1876).

AU v. GT is a VERY old Rivalry.

1992 expansion saw a lot of change for the sake of the SEC and Auburn was particularly screwed over.

Forgive us for not exactly being "thrilled" with the current state of things.

Honestly, I'ld love to have Clemson on the schedule (even if as an SEC team)!

&, just like 99.99999999999999999999% of the world, would dropping a "cupcake game" be missed?

Yes A&M has played LSU 58 and Auburn has played LSU 54 but you have to remember LSU didn’t become a dominant SEC program in football until after Gerry Dinardo left. They were surprisingly quite bad.

So I’m not sure the point of your comment. It proves nothing but to bolster the OP’s argument. LSU now is like Tennessee back in the day when Tennessee was legit.
