When we're smoking cigars on your tiger eye this fall, you'll know why.

I think schedule is a huge factor this year. I give Auburn the edge over Alabama, just because Alabama plays Georgia at Georgia and has to play a resurgent Tenn while Auburn gets Georgia at home and plays Kentucky.

Honestly though, it would not overly surprise if any of the other west teams won the division this year.

Would it have been a less fluky season if we'd won in overtime?

Yes. Clearly. How do you not see that?

And yet Malzahn's offense scored 31 on a more talented Pruitt defense just 10 months before.

In other words, jury's still out on Pruitt v. Malzahn, IMO.
When had Auburn been stopped at all during 2013? That offense was nasty and to hold them to 31 points was probably a minor victory. People always forget about the 2nd half of that game where Pruitt held Auburn to 10 points and 35 yards in the 3rd quarter. It certainly wasn't a good performance, but FSU's D stepped up when it needed to.

So for the last 6 quarters of Pruitt vs. Malzahn, Gus has managed 17 points.

I always find cherry picking quarters to be a hilariously absurd way to form an argument.

We should've done that then, so you guys would stop trying to explain away the loss.

It's not like it changes the record...win on spectacular play or win in average overtime fashion. To me that doesn't change the season, just the end of one game.

Sorry for winning in regulation.

That's cherry picking? The argument is have any DC's figured out Gus.

For the last 8 quarters he's managed 38 ... Which is 19 points a game which would be well under Gus' average.

Better?

"Figuring something out" implies that there should be improvement shown in a linear manner. Football games are traditionally broken down into halves and quarters. It's not cherry picking to say something like...

1st half NC = 21
2nd half NC = 10
1st half last year = 7
2nd half last year = 0

...because it is exactly the type of evidence we would look for to determine if Pruitt was figuring Malzahn out.

Wasn't Auburn accused of stealing signs that game? Not sure if that was just offensive signs but still

Not trying to explain it away. You guys won and should be incredibly proud of it. No AU fan (or Bama fan, unfortunately) will ever forget that game. Winning in OT wasn't a given for either team. Winning in that ultra-rare fashion coming off the ultra-rare type win against uga is part of reason people point to the unique (or as someone else said "fluke") nature of that season. The other factor is that AU hasn't been able to show that level of performance consistently from season to season. Win double digit games back to back a few times and people will start giving more credit to the seasons like you had in 2013 instead of claiming that season is the outlier.

Only idiots believe that happens. Jimbo isn't a rocket scientist, but he is smarter than that.

Agree. 95% certain the West is going to be au or Bama. You just have to au the edge because of schedule and I think Johnson is going to be a better QB than who Bama goes with. That really is it for me
