I haven't lived in the area for the past 12 years, but Murfreesboro was a nightmare. It's just growing too fast and the roads couldn't handle it.

I remember when 440 didn't even exist. And now you have 840 so I would have thought it would be even better.

I have to go into downtown Murfreesboro on a somewhat regular basis, and getting back to 65 at evening rush hour can take damn near an hour, and 24 going into Nashville is a parking lot every morning, but other than that it doesn't even compare to what Nashville has turned into. I lived near Vandy's campus about 10 years ago and it's truly unreal the growth that has happened just in the last 10 years. It looks like a completely different city, and I didn't even grow up here.

I’ve lived in both. I found the people are generally friendlier in AL, but the landscape in TN is better overall. Because of my New Orleans background I prefer south Alabama lifestyle…..similar to NO.

The High Country of NC is pretty much heaven on Earth.

Alabama has some nice areas, but Alabama also has more white trash slash pine hellscapes than Tennessee by a factor of at least 50. "Pine tree farming" has been a scourge on our society.

It's always been somewhat of a pain. Even back in the early 80s when Antioch was new growth.

I pretty much expect it in cities I guess. I consider Phoenix the absolutely best city to drive in and it's not even close. But there are still times when the traffic backs up.

TN - no state income tax and they don't put mayo on their BBQ.

Objectively, Tennessee wins this hands down. It's prettier, has far more capital, better schools and is more culturally diverse. You have the blues in the west and the country music capital in the middle. Amazing food. The most important children's research hospital in the world. Nashville is a becoming another Austin, which is good and bad, but it's definitely a destination city.

Tennessee is just on another level economically.

Either would be a good place to live. Tennessee has no state income tax though, right, so that probably tilts the table in that direction, however my experience in Washington State with no state income tax meant huge charges for everything else that the state could justify a fee for so it is not that big a tilt. Not at our income level anyway....if we were making a mill a year it would have probably been different....

Bama has the beaches

That's like saying China has beaches. Sure, they do. But most of them are ugly and plain.

I have lived in both Ala and Tenn at different times of my life.

I like east Tenn but you would not believe the number of people from California and the north that have flocked into Tenn the last number of years.

It has driven up the price of housing for sure. I am uncertain about their voting habits.

I find it odd that for years and years people outside the South ran down the South for every thing they could think of and now it seems like they all want to live here. Go figure!
