I had forgotten what Majors looked like pre Fulmer's knife-in-the back.

Emmitt rockin' the Bel Biv Devoe look. He was always a classy cat.

Why black & white photo's? It's not like it was the 50's.

Newspapers covered this mainly in the 80's. Back then, they used b&w photos.

It was Birmingham in the 1980s, so, yeah, it WAS like it was the 50s.

Every August from 1965 until 1983, the SEC Skywriters would tour the league schools. Forty or so newspaper and TV reporters, a few cameramen and SEC publicist Elmore "Scoop" Hudgins would climb onto an aging Convair aircraft, piloted by a guy known as "Crash" and the trip would begin. It was no place for the faint of heart.
Good read

I used to really enjoy the Skywriters tour as it was called.
They would fly to every SEC town and get on the field and report, in the paper or on tv.

I remember reading that the new reporters had to carry all the luggage. That is probably why it ended.
