No, not unless you are limiting it to Memphis Dry Rub specifically ... neither is Memphis in the SEC for that matter, but I get the whole Midsouth hub of the wheel thing.

I do agree however, KC-MO does not have the best BBQ. I'd probably have to rate them somewhere around 7th or 8th.

SC is the birthplace of BBQ and we do it well here. SC is the birthplace of BBQ .... .... there is no denying that historical fact.

I like several places in Texas quite a bit though - and they do brisket about as well as anyone in the country IMHO. But real BBQ is pork, that's just a fact.

I like Rendezvous' in Memphis, it's good. Not what it used to be years ago, but it's still pretty good. Tennessee has several good BBQ restaurants actually, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville and even up around Johnson City.

Very true in St. Louis, whose claim to fame on the BBQ scene is grilled pork steaks covered with Maul's BBQ. Simply terrible.

St. Louis has great italian food though.

Memphis and KC are top 2 in the nation, no doubt. They have distinct styles. Personally, I like Memphis. Favorite being The Pig (i think thats the name) on Beale street. Gates in KC is definitely awesome, but the sauce isn't my style.

Oh frick no ... you like that ketchup based nasty crap up in NC? Which end of the state are you referring to? East or West end? Green River style is okay, it is, but that's about it for up there.

Memphis already owns this category. KC might be top 5 though.

This. ^^

Oklahoma Joe's (err I mean "Joe's Kansas City") is the best KC has to offer, but it's no match for Rendezvous, Neely's Interstate, or even Central BBQ. Getting outside of Memphis, I like Sims and Whole Hog in Little Rock ahead of anything in KC. Also, I'd love to give Dreamland a try sometime down in Alabama.

A new one in KC called Q39 is actually very good. Still not Memphis good, but it's a very good BBQ place. I can take or leave Gates or Arthur Bryant's. And Jack Stack might as well be wheeling out microwaved McRibs.

Ew. No.

Paynes, BBQ Shop, Cozy Corner, Interstate, Central, Tops, Showboat, Commissary, or you're wrong. (I'm sure I left two or three out)

I'd guess locals hate anything on Beale. But I had some damn good pork in that very restaurant a couple summers ago. May have been the best pork I've tasted.

Ive been all over the south. Ive not had a better pulled pork sandwich than from Craigs in DeValls Bluff Arkansas. You can get two things there. A Hot one or a mild one.

Yup. It's where I take people from out of town.

Locals don't hate Beale. We do hate Corky's though.

so overrated. I wouldn't even put the Rendezvous in the top 5 in Memphis. if it weren't downtown, it would not be rated like it is.
