Great college football player, turned out to be the Yankees bullpen catcher for a long time.

quote:So you remember Maury Farrell's radio broadcasts. I didn't realize it back then, but heard later that he liked to take his flask into the booth and sometimes found the bottom during a game!
I remember a few names from earlier in the 40's, but no real memory of games except listening on the radio.

I was in attendance for that one. First I remember on TV was the 1978 Ole Miss-LSU game in Baton Rouge. LSU won like 30-8. First live game was Saints-Falcons in 1978. Saints were up 17-6 at the 2 minute warning. We had a lot of older family members with us so my Father decided we should leave. Long story short Falcons won on a Hail Mary to win in regulation 20-17. I've never left a game early since. First college game was 1988 Ole Miss-Florida in Jackson. Florida had Emmitt Smith, Louis Oliver,Trace Armstrong and Huey Richardson all first round picks. Ole Miss had Wesley Walls. UF won 27-15.

1971 LSU-Colorado season opener in Tiger Stadium. Colorado throttled us 31-21, leaving Tiger fans shaking their heads and thinking it was going to be a rough season. As it turned out, Colorado finished #3 in the nation (AP) that year (behind Nebraska and Oklahoma in a 1-2-3 sweep by the Big 8) and LSU went on to finish 9-3 after tough, close losses to Ole Miss in Jackson and Alabama in Tiger Stadium. The highlight of the season was a 28-8 stomping of Notre Dame in Tiger Stadium, revenge for the 3-0 heartbreaker in South Bend the year before and ND's bumping us out of the Cotton Bowl the year before that.

Dec. 1979. I think it was the Tangerine Bowl. LSU won 34-10 I believe. A few weeks later Bo Rein was gone.

I remember going to the Saints Eagles wild card playoff game in the 1992 season. I remember the Saints losing and the game not being particularly close.

I do remember Maury, but my "innocent" young mind was shielded from such goings on. Actually, there were stories and a number of them were evidently true.
I followed from afar for seasons '53 thru '60 while with the military. Also military in '52. Caught the Sugar Bowl following the 61 season. Fortunate to have been away for the "Ears" Whitworth years.

First college game I can remember is the 94 win over Arkansas.
For pro, I guess it would be the Saints in the 1990 playoffs.

I can't remember the first football I saw. I can tell you the best game that I saw in person. I think it was in 2000. #2 Florida came into Starkville. Grossman was the UF quarterback that year and State curb stomped the gators. The final score was 47-35 but Florida scored 2 tds late to make it that close. It was a 2:30 game. DWS was so loud and that's the closest that I came to being in an earthquake.

The Hall of Fame bowl loss to Syracuse or the monsoon against Miami.
Can't remember which was first.
The first Saints game was the 42-10 loss in the playoffs to the Vickings when we were up 10-0 lol
