This plus no desire from the BMD to change that culture.

Completely agree there. I think they saw Elko as a safe pair of hands after the Jimbo debacle. We will need to differentiate ourselves somehow if we are ever going to truly contend going forward. I think it will take a pretty unique combination of coaching talent/attitude to thread the needle with our fans/culture and sell us on a national stage. Perhaps it will happen but I am not holding my breath.

Baseball doesn’t garner nearly the attention of the other two but I’d argue we underachieve more in this than football. We were on the verge of extended national title contention before the unthinkable happened, and we can get there again if we take the next hire seriously.

We are unlikely to ever be a national player in basketball. Our older alumni don’t give a shite and it shows. Perhaps that changes as those people age out as there’s now ~20 years or so of alums that have experienced the program being pretty good

They will always been number 2 in the state and college station is a shite hole and the cult like nature of the fan base means any coach who can coach anywhere will leave.

seat was getting warm, he basically pulled a shaka and beat his employer to the punch before his stock dropped any more.

A&M has never been a big time sports program. They just got hyped up by the media when they joined the SEC and hit lightning in a bottle with Manziel.

Fans forget that these coaches don’t care about ATM or the traditions, it’s a job. Which is true for any school. The problem is when you have to participate in them, live in CS, and have promises not met with funding (like Schloss) greener pastures are available.

They could try and money whip someone but I do think the outsiders really have no clue just how different their BMD and Admin truly is.

I think only aggies who are born aggie, or who actually personally desire to become aggies and thus voluntarily accept aggie indoctrination, understand a&m culture and traditions…

For outsiders, they are fundamentally embarrassing, and impossible to understand… plus now we have social media to broadcast odd aggie ways… Not sure how new aggie coaches’ spouses or kids can want to live in College Station for very long…

When you care more about hating big brother than loving yourself these things tend to happen.

The Aggies have never won a national championship in baseball.

They have no NCAA basketball championships.

Texas A&M has won one national championship in football --1939. Ranked 23rd all-time behind Ole Miss. There are ten SEC schools ahead of them.

I don’t think non basketball schools turn into basketball schools overnight, unless you’re Arkansas and Tyson chicken.

Auburn.
Alabama.
Tennessee.
Texas Tech.

Those are just four off the top of my head.

As for Aggie, I think it’s baffling how a school with every built in advantage of massive state, incredible recruiting area, huge alumni base, insane fan support and the the biggest NIL / financial support, can’t dominate the revenue sports.of football and hoops.

The O/U on football is 7.5. That’s crazy, given their huge advantages.

It is incredibly hard to be both good in football and basketball at the same time every year.

Only 26 schools in the nation had football go to a bowl game and basketball to the NCAA tournament.

You beat the #1 team.

I don’t get Buzz leaving for Maryland.

There must be more to all of this.
