Ohio state is in a huge population area and an absolute consistent winner unlike Texas and Florida. Their NIL isn’t even good. The true outlier for blue blood success is Bama. Very small population state, below average in state recruiting, and not a lot of donor money compared to the big oil schools and east coast schools. Oklahoma is another outlier but there’s a lot more oil money and the fertile DFW recruiting area right down the road.

OSU players get to beat up lesser players from lesser teams almost guaranteeing a playoff appearance. Michigan wasn't ever supposed to be a threat.

I think the next few years are going to be very interesting for Ohio State. Outside of the B1G their line play looks very average. It's how Michigan has beat them, it's how Missouri beat them.

The East Coast Media has propped up the whole BIG. This has allowed them a nice insular comfort zone for a long time, that's about to end.

Lincoln Day will be gone after this year.

Be careful what you wish for. 95% of programs would love to be in Ohio State's shoes right now.

Huh? After Florida, Texas, California, and now Georgia, the state of Alabama is in the tier with Louisiana , North Carolina and Ohio producing high school football talent. Relevant to that….

STATES WITH MOST NFL PLAYERS

Texas - 187
Florida - 178
California - 173
Georgia - 150
Ohio - 67
North Carolina - 66
Louisiana - 64
Alabama - 60
Pennsylvania - 55
Michigan - 51

LINK

Also cogent to this subject, The University of Alabama is 5th in endowment among SEC member schools, so apparently in decent shape

BOOM! Ohio State has landed a commitment from Rivals' No. 1 linebacker in the 2025 class Riley Pettijohn

What is it about “Oklahoma” would be the better topic.

Does that take account some big boosters doing NIL deals that aren't under the collectives?

How Missouri beat them

I have never seen a fan base make such a big deal out of winning such a meaningless bowl game.
Didn't Ohio State have a bunch of players sitting out for the NFL draft ?
I don't even think that they had their starting QB because he already transferred before the Bowl Game.

Michigan beating them was a big deal, because it is a huge rivalry & had National Title implications.
Do you think the Buckeye Players gave a damn about that Mizzou game.
They probably didn't even want to play the game.

60 years from now Mizzou fans will be sitting on their porch babbling about their big win over the Buckeyes in a game that nobody outside of Missouri remembers.

You were down 2 players. same as us. Your coaching staff certainly did not take us seriously, and it showed. Both your lines were full staffed, the offensive line was outplayed the whole game, your defensive line was gassed by the end of the 3rd quarter. Deal with it any way you want.

Yes, we'll remember it. Yes, you will try to forget it. And it remains in the record for all time.

Huge state (population) with a great football culture (just look at all the MAC schools, which are pretty talented overall) - Tons of talent........
Lots of states fit this same bill.

First of all Ohio State isn't my team.
I'm just a logical person who understands that Ohio State is used to playing in the playoffs & vying for the national championship.
It's just silly to think that they were all jacked up for a Non-Playoff Bowl Game vs Mizzou after coming off a loss to their rival & missing the playoff.

It's just comical all of the Mizzou people referencing their "big win" over the Buckeyes in every Oho State related post.
If I were a Mizzou fan it would be cool to have an official W over a Blue Blood, but I would be honest with myself and realize that it wasn't an Ohio State that cared and brought their "A" game,

Kind of like if I won a race against Usain Bolt where he was wearing sandals & eating a sandwich.
I would see it for what it was.

Probable other reason is their coaches are absolutely dynamic as men and coaches. Brian Hartline WR coach speaks for itself.... Larry Johnson DL coach speaks for itself.....DB coach Tim Walton, who Jalen Ramsey said was his best coach ever, is an absolute terror in recruiting, and now James laurinaitis LB coach and all pro is lighting up recruiting in his 1st full year

Yep, this right here. They have dynamic recruiters

This is supposedly the NIL era where only big-money big-market schools can recruit - that's what we were told.

…do you not understand economics. Ohio state has one of the biggest alumni networks in the country. Their undergrad/grad is 100k students yearly. Huge population to raise money from. The athletic department generates 300m a year and puts 95% of that cash back into operations.

Imagine the state of Alabama without Auburn and 3x the population and alumni base. It is amazing what Alabama has accomplished over the years as a smaller institution. Just 40 years ago Bama only had 15,000 students while OSU has had 50k plus forever.

It must be a Cotton bowl thing. No team ever wants to be there against Mizzou. They also have issues like their coach leaving or players sitting out. Damn shame.

Yeah, but 10/10 times, I’d take a 3 star from Coosa County, AL over a 4 star from Hamilton County, OH or a 4 star from Mobile County, AL over a 5 star from Cuyahoga County, OH.
