Portal and coaching Carousel. Losing Saban and Harbaugh are two huge losses for CFB

We are very much on the losing end of it this year, but overall it’s great. Great season so far.

Teams have poor fundamentals. Coaches cannot coach players hard or they will transfer. Players who transfer do not fully understand the system of their new team and leave an experience gap in the team they left. The overall quality of football has decreased.

Service academies are immune to this and look at how Army and Navy have done this year. They are absolutely destroying teams. Admittedly Air Force being extremely bad is a big detractor here, but they've got to be having some other problems. I don't follow them enough to know what.

I thought I’d hate the portal/NIL era but it actually has led to more entertaining games.

Instead of one or two interesting matchups every Saturday, now you get several great games.

Clock rules mean fewer possessions to build up bigger leads too

and fans rushing the field after a decent win. The downward spiral of college football continues.

As a Bama fan I can only speak for myself, but after yesterday I’m convinced that the new norm is you can be beaten by anyone on any given Saturday. And with the new norm comes the fact that the game is a fight to win the entire sixty minutes. It’s just what it is.

Feels a lot like 2007. Bloodbath in the top 25 every week seems like.

Portal and too much money. The officiating has been noticeably awful across all conferences not just the sec. I watched osu and Oregon last night and couldn’t believe some of the missed calls. Oregon intercepted the ball in the 1st quarter and it was called an osu completion no review. I think Vegas has sunk its teeth into college football. It’s the only thing explaining how bad officials have been this year.

NIL and Transfer Portal has made college football have more parody.

Good point. Hadn’t thought of that, I think even more so fewer plays means depth isn’t as important. The biggest gap between the haves and have nots is players coming off the bench. If teams can leave starters in longer it would seem their chances would be better.

Getting paid doesn’t make these kids play harder or put in more time to work on fundamentals. It does the opposite for various reasons.

And on top of that coaches can’t actually coach them anymore. Any discipline or yanking playing time or pushing too hard in practice is “fine I’m in the portal” …

So you have 1/3 of your rosters learning new system every year

You have your star players not pushing or practicing or caring as much because they are already paid and know they can enter the draft or transfer if they don’t get their way

Leads to selfish players, less team oriented goals, less coaching and more roster/diva management
