Honestly, I think Jon Sumrall would be a better hire.

Florida had a lame duck head coach and is still ahead of Ole miss in recruiting. Imagine what they would do with Lane

Then why does UF still have a higher team composite than both?
MO and OM each have 33 4 star players on their rosters. UF has 48

Isn't there a lawsuit against Florida for not fulfilling their NIL deal?

Alex Gol if Kiffin does not work

Our AD is not very good at picking a HC for CFB though...so it could be someone even Vegas cannot predict.

I could see it being someone from the NFL that people don't really expect. I would wager it'll be an offensive guy no matter which way they go.

Where are all these super coaches or "the next Saban" coming from?

As long as you have the portal, NIL, and expanded playoffs there likely won’t ever be another coach that has the success Saban had.

Yea the days of what is considered being successful will probably change now..

Hard to success like
Bobby Bowden
Nick Saban
Steve Spurrier
Etc

You can still be very successful, see Kirby and Day..but it is different.

He probably already has.

He is already making $9 million a year and Kirby is the highest at $13 million. No school is going to make him the highest paid coach in NCAA, is he going to leave for an extra $1-$3 million?

Hard to pull guys from their schools ala Brohm at Louisville.

But you at least have to make the phone call if they are on your list. If I'm Florida, I'm giving Brohm and the USF coach calls for certain. I know their big fish is probably Lane, which you have to make that call and force him and his agent to tell you "no". But I just don't see Lane leaving Ole Miss for Florida (right now) and Notre Dame will outbid UF for Freeman any day of the week.

And just what has UF done with this season? Surely they are undefeated, what with all the 4 star players and all, right? I mean, they simply must be.

We had the worst playcaller in UF history calling plays. Hence why he was just fired. You cant be this slow

You are lost in the past to think star rankings even matter at this point. Ole Miss just brought in a 0 star that is one of the best QBs in NCAA currently and Arch Manning 5 star is well, not quite good.

NIL/Portal has turned player evaluation back to coaches and not subscriber based recruiting services in several ways.

I was going to post the same. I think he is the default if bigger names turn them down. I would be ok with him if I were Florida. Hes done a pretty damn good job at USF and already has ties to the area recruiting wise

It blows my mind that schools continue to fire coaches without having any kind of plan in place to replace them.

What does that even mean? You talking about having private conversations with agents and getting affirmatives set in place before even talking to your current coach? Yeah. No, that’s a bad idea. It was done in the past and didn’t land well.
All this is why coaching searches are a roll of the dice…..timing, availability….schools don’t really know until they cut bait and get in the water.

We will pay top dollar for Kiffin to stay. Money would not be the reason that he leaves.

If you get him, you're going to have to pay him upwards of $15 million, which is stupid. If you offer him that, then Merry Christmas and we will all laugh when you fire him in 4 years and pay a ridiculous buyout.

I'm reminded of this quote from Mullen about asking Florida for more money for his assistant salary pool:

I was always told no. Everything was no.

Mike Leach's QBs werent 5 star guys either, maybe just maybe Lane's system is just really QB friendly

We know how that ranking got assigned
