What if the College Football Playoff had 8 teams and played like this?

This year, the CFP would look something like this:
1st Round:
#1 Clemson (13-0) vs. #8 Notre Dame (10-2)
#2 Alabama 12-1 vs. #7 Ohio State (11-1)
#3 Michigan State (12-1) vs. #6 Stanford (11-2)
#4 Oklahoma (11-1) vs. #5 Iowa (12-1)
Who wins?

How is that even remotely close to being fair. Yeah, Clemson, you went undefeated. Here's Oklahoma for you who is on a roll right now.
Iowa, we know you played no one all year except MSU, who you lost to, but here's the 8 seed in your first round.
Cmon man. I'm all for 8 teams, but just seed them normally.
As far as who wins, I think that format clearly favors Bama.

It would be dumb not to have:
1 vs 8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 va 5
1 vs 8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 va 5

No. And how do you figure this? A two week Playoff? Isn't that a little lame? A little lackluster? Honestly?
It's one of the only things the NFL does much better than College. I love the NFL Playoff Format, but of course with how College Football goes, a 12-team playoff would be too long for college players.
Edit: I took this part of the post out because because of my lack of sleep I forgot about Conference Championships.
Boom. Done.

I thought you did it on purpose because it was like how they did the 4 this season. I do prefer it how you have it now but I'm pretty certain there is no set format for a tournament that you violated with your original.

Nope, I actually ended up confusing myself when I copied the teams and I forgot to rearrange them to the format I wanted for an 8-team Playoff. I ended up typing the rest of the teams in the same incorrect format by mistake.
That's what I get for posting when I'm low on sleep I guess.

This plan works perfectly up to the moment Alabama gets in the playoffs without winning the conference title. Then everyone gets apoplectic and demands to reduce it to the Big Six champions or back to four teams.

I've always said either have a playoff or don't.
The old "Maryland rule" is what brought about expansion of the NCAA tourney. If you have conference champs that eliminates what may be the 2nd best team like it did Maryland because they happened to play in the same conference as UNC and UNC wins by a point and Maryland didn't lose again but missed the tourney when they were CLEARLY right there with UNC. 5 conference champs and 3 at large teams.
OR... go back to the BCS so you don't lose the regular season.

No one knows who would win these games.
To me, anyone who says 4 is perfect makes no sense to me. When you have 5 big time conferences, where you could easily have 5 0 or 1 loss champs, there is no way to determine which one is "least deserving" by any metric that matters. You can use SOS, and games against top 10/25/50/bowl teams, but until 2 teams match up against each other there is no way to know

Or..... how about just let the whole season be a playoff ?
Week one : Team ranked #1 vs team ranked #128...etc
No conferences, no bowls, no need for ooc strength rankings... perfect !

This is honestly a great idea. The big 5 champions end up getting in, but it also opens the way for other teams that have been impressive throughout the season.
A 4 team playoff just isn't nearly as exciting as one where there's much more on the line, and other teams end up getting fricked because of the extremely limited space. One extra game just doesn't feel like it's enough. There should be an actual struggle to get to the NC, but of course that's just my opinion.
