What if Bama and Auburn started the season playing each other week one?

I would be down with it. Would definitely be a highlight in a year without many of them.

Sabah would certainly find something not fair about it.

That would be terrible for your school. And terrible for me as a fan imo. I always have seen auburn bama last game of season. And I think it’s a good tradition.

Would you honestly like opening up week 1 without hardly any preparation and hardly any offseason training, against a top 5 team.

Then you would play during rivalry week.

Would Love for all the rivalry games to be played week 1
That might be most healthy roster you have
Plus it kind of takes the place of the lost neutral site games
Week 1 schedule could be
Iron bowl
Cocktail party
LSU at a&m
Egg bowl
That would be the best way to kickoff the season

Gus could have fans bring 100,000 empty boxes of Frosted Flakes

They could smuggle em in and frisbee them on the field and at Sabah

I have no problem with it if it works out that way.

I've always liked the idea; however, unpopular it may be.

No better way to focus the team than a big rivalry week 1. Remove excuses of significant injuries and being beat up; also, allows time to recover from an emotional loss with a whole season ahead.

I like the idea of weeks to prep for a rivalry like a bowl game. Also, an off-season to rollout new wrinkles and schemes against your most hated team and force them to react.

Great kickoff IMO. That said, I also like the late Sept start. Too damn hot for football in Aug/first week of Sept

As if Aub. cares about tradition (DSOR in Nov. ring a bell)?
Or wanting to move to the East & end the IB since Ala./Tn. won't give up TSIO.

Bama by 50.

In the last decade, would Auburn have won an Iron Bowl had it been a season opener?

Auburn usually starts out slow, while Bama destroys teams early on.

Plus, Bama would be fully healthy. Half of Auburn's wins the last decade are because of a ton of injuries on the Bama side.

Only bama has injuries and only bama beats bama

favors bama..The AU offense seems to take time for it to gel and they get stronger as the season goes along. Think the first 3-4 games of Cammy.

I'm sure some key Auburn players on a much less deep roster get injured along the way, as well. But, yes, injuries, potentially having a CCG to play the week after (especially when the rival has nothing to lose and is hell bent on playing spoiler), no room left to improve in the polls after a loss in a game where records do not matter, etc all could be resolved with a week 1 rivalry kickoff weekend.

The Iron Bowl is sacred and belongs as the last game of the regular season. Tradition

Might be the stupidest fricking excuse I've ever heard. Like Auburn doesn't have injuries. Like we don't play a tougher schedule leading up to the game. Like you don't have a much much much deeper roster. Get the frick outta here with that bullshite.

Everyone has injuries, but no team in the SEC can match the amount of serious injuries that Bama has the last 4 seasons.

Likely cost Bama 2 nattys.
