You’ve never seen a school use a player’s likeness? You see current players featured on all sorts of things from posters, programs, banners, even tickets.

Not how it’s going to work. They won’t get paid for being in a school football program.

Why do you think they won’t get paid? The law says they’re to get paid for using their likeness.

This is for specifically 3rd party’s, schools will not have to pay for there players likeness.

Here’s what will happen. Quarterback or Running Back walks into the locker room wearing a Rolex and bragging about his new ride to the team. Couple of offensive lineman look at each other and say screw them aholes, let’s see how they do without any blocking Saturday.

Profiting from your likeness has no effect on title 9. The athletes won’t be getting paid from the school, it will be from 3rd party’s. Literally just like it is now just above board. If the school isn’t giving money title 9 doesn’t matter.

Are you guys really that naive? Assuming you are correct which I don't fully agree with, you do realize we are just talking about a bunch of arbitrary rules made up by adult D&D government role players. They make these rules up as they go along yet you guys cite them as if they were in the bill or rights.

The second enough "marginalized" athletes get together to complain about the disproportionate distribution of payments these same government fools will make enact Title 9.4563 to cover this loophole.

There is also a bylaw that says the school already owns likeness with scholarship. This is for 3rd party’s I don’t understand why this is so difficult.

Is there wording in the law that says as much?

And even if there is, do you think for one minute female athletes won’t sue these 3rd parties for equal pay?

What happens when college football players are allowed to make money off their likeness and then the women’s field hockey team or whatever demands their players receive the same amount of money?

Is there a big market for women's field hockey video games?

There will be lawsuits after lawsuits until people drop the idea of paying players. The idea is great in principal but there isn't anyway to equal that particular playing field.

The only idea I've seen that realistically makes sense is paying players a portion of the gate in the event of a sellout (or when capacity reaches a certain percentage).

It’ll all fade into obscurity when the same politicians pushing this stuff realize that it would in essence destroy Title IX.

They’re posturing now for political points during election season. Once the women’s rights people figure out what’s going on, all this nonsense will stop with the quickness.

This is dumb. It didn’t happen at Oklahoma when Kyler got millions from his baseball contract. He won a damn heisman. These players want the opportunity to make money.

As I said before, you simply write a clause into the financial aid agreement that allows the school to use the players likeness. The compensation for that use is the scholarship and the cost of living payments that the schools pay the players. Both parties sign and agree. Basic contract law. Open and shut.

Furthemore, the players receive free meals, books, health care, access to the strength and conditioning programs, etc, etc that all could be considered compensation.

Do these new laws say a player cannot be paid by the school? If the school is making money off of the players likeness, then why shouldn't they get paid by the school?

I haven't read the new laws, but does it say the school itself cannot pay them? What about private schools?

How can you possibly expect to win a lawsuit demanding money for performing nothing? They would only have a leg to stand on if the 3rd parties used their likeness and did not pay them a comparable amount of money... Even then though, I would imagine the amount of money was negotiated and agreed upon in a contract beforehand.
