I think the last three years it just hasn't had the iconic moments like it's had since '06 (and really before that to be honest):
'06: First tebow jump pass, both teams were contenders
'07: Jacob Hester, 4 4th down conversions
'08: Beatdown in the Swamp
'09: Tebow wins on the road after concussion
'10: Les calls the fake field goal to win
'11: Brad Wing fake punt TD, LSU beatdown
'12: Gillislee goes off, Gators appear to arrive under Muschamp
'13: Nothing crazy, appeared to seal Muschamp's fate in Death Valley
'14: Gators are dead men walking under Muschamp. LSU rolls dice on fourth again to win in the Swamp
'15: Gators fresh off WIll Grier suspension take undefeated LSU to the wire on the road, LSU scores yet another TD on fake field goal
'16: Goal line stand. Fournette suits up after shoving UF coach and getting into fight with CJGJ. Maybe the most epic game of the rivalry for UF Fans
'17: Gators can't stop the Matt Canada jet sweep; McElwain's wheels begin to fall off
'18: Brad Stewart (only UF player from Louisiana at the time) game winning pick six on Joe Burrow.
'19: UF plays LSU closer than any other team in 2019 on the road, LSU pulls away with a late Stingley pick, entire Death Valley chomps
'20: The shoe game. The fog game. The downfall of UF football
'21: Ty Davis Price sets LSU rushing record. Anthony Richardson introduces himself to the world.
'22-'23: Jayden Daniels.
'24: Gators win shootout in the Swamp. Nuss shines. Gators begin the turnaround to save Napier.
No love lost between these two teams. Would be sad if this is no longer an annual rivalry. I'm not sure there's been a more action-packed SEC rivalry than this one over the past 20 years

'97 & the '07 games are 2 of my favorites but not high on this "rivalry". Just can't really hate Florida enough. I'd rather play Auburn
Every generation of LSU fans hate a different team the most, as LSU's traditional rival (Tulane) declined decades ago.
As an LSU fan that began watching football in the mid-2000s, my hatred of Florida is as high as any other team.

As an LSU fan, in my mind from ~2001 to roughly the time of the shoe throw, Florida was always the second or third SEC game, and usually the first "real" game. How LSU did against Florida was something of an indicator on how the rest of the season would go, so it was always a big game - but not necessarily a rivalry. I do remember some Florida fans at LSU campus one year unwise enough to start a fight in the middle of the quad, so I've always seen the fans in a negative light. But up until the post-Meyer slide, Florida was the early-season litmus test on what to expect going forward.

What happened to the LSU Florida rivalry?
Like every LSU "rivalry", it is based on circumstances which means it is not a true rivalry. When the winner of the LSU/Florida game was reguarly playing for championships, we were rivals. It was still a fun game and I was always glad to have Florida as our permanent east opponent.
Now, with expansion, we don't even play every year, so that rivalry feeling will likely never return.

Bullsh*t on Bama and Tenner
LSU vs UF has been played way longer than both of those.

No that was a terrible toss dive call

I dunno if it’s rivalry as much as it’s a good game with one fan base that talks a lot of shite and the other wears jorts

Is it even a rivalry anymore in football?
Posted on 5/13/25 at 1:22 pm to lsutiger2
Outside of Spurrier years and Vern Lunquist having on air orgasms over Tim Tebow, I don't hate Florida. Its been a while since Florida was relevant enough to hate anymore than aTm or Auburn whoever.

So has UF-Vandy and UF-Auburn, you don't win this by total game count alone

Meeting in the SEC-championship game 9 times, often with national title implications tends to build a rivalry

LSU is 4th or maybe 5th in the UF rival hierarchy.
Meanwhile UF is 1st or 2nd for LSU.
LSU just has less history and less rivals.

don't think Gator fans ever hated LSU as much as Tiger fans hated the Gators.
Correct. I was totally oblivious to it until I visited Baton Rouge. Obviously it's an important game but never hated LSU.

I can only imagine how stupid things got on here during that 2016 fiasco.

frick Florida. I would rather beat Florida than any other team in any sport. I became an LSU fan during the Hallman years and Spurrier was dropping 60 on us. They cost us an undefeated natty in 2003. They are the only team to clinch the CWS against LSU. frick Florida.
