That might have been the worst coaching job ever.

Well yeah, John L picked up a win. Haha.
Just replying back to the person who said it was chiziks talent.
Maybe it did help.
I think Gus has done pretty good for himself and Auburn.

2013: A; great turnaround. Certainly had the golden horseshoe.
2014:C; preseason #6; lost 3 games by 2+ scores; finished .500 in SEC; never really recovered after MSU loss; allowed 30+ pts per game in 7 of last 8; would be a C- given the expectations heading into the season, they did pull out an Ole Miss win that ultimately kept UM's "never having won 10 regular season games streak alive" ... so, extra credit for helping preserve traditions.
2015: D; From preseason #6 to the Birmingham Bowl; had 2 x teams from Kentucky, Jax State,Idaho, and SJSU on the schedule and finished regular season .500 while needing OT for Jax St win; last in the SEC West
2016: Solid B; benefited from a relatively down SEC and squeaked in the NY6 bowl as UA played CFP; they were more deserving of the bid than UF; close losses to a very good Clemson team and rival UGA; aTm seemed due a win and 2016 UA was a very good team. Overall, they managed the season well and no UA fan can talk about an OU loss.
2017: A-; much better team than the 4 losses indicates. Would be an A for coaching, but couldn't get the team back ready and focused for the SEC CG and CFP bid; then went uninterested into a NY6 loss to UCF forcing their NC revelry to unfold.
Assuming each season is worth 3 credits on a +/- scale, Gus has coached to a 2.74, B-.

A lot of the players who helped him win that sec title was mostly chizik players.
Lol never seen someone try to bring this argument up...
Chizik went 3-9 the year before with those players
Those players were almost exclusively scouted and recruited while Malzahn was here.

I was about to say those were Malzahn’s players on offense exclusively

His postseason record is atrocious.
D-
His 2 victories against Saban are the only thing that have kept him afloat.

Doesn't seem fair. He went to a National Championship game. That alone should get him better than a D-. Then he won the West this past season. At worst he gets a solid "C".

For those who give him a C, what has he done that would be considered average? If he is average , what do you rate the other coaches? Why ?

Show me who else has beat Saban.
OM doesn't count because they cheated.
Pretty small group that can say they beat Saban.

You are responding to a dumbass gump troll whose only point seems to be if he lost 5 in a row to bama he would be fired.
Well, no shite.
Well, no shite.

B is the answer.
He is better than average, but hasn't been excellent.
You might give him a B+ considering this isn't your daddy's bama run, A&M was added to the conference and the Mississippi schools have used the TV money well the last several years.

This would be a good time for someone to post a link to Auburn’s seccg game thread.

He gets dropped an entire letter grade on LSU 2017 and UGA 2016 games alone.

For me he did incredibly well his first year, but has been pretty meh the rest of the way. I mean, he averages 5 losses a year after 2013.
This past season was a mixed bag. he should get credit for winning the West, but losing to LSU and UCF? I can't ignore those. I mean, at times you guys were gang busters...beating Georgia and Alabama. But then losing in the SECCG and to LSU and UCF were very bad. The Clemson game was your year in a nutshell. You kept the defending National Champs in check, but gave up 11 sacks, and looked meh in the game overall.
But, like I said in my earlier post, I would give him a C+ to B-.
Not trolling. Just trying to explain why I feel this way overall.

Yeah. We were pretty bad in 2016.

C+ in my opinion. But I’ll qualify my grade by saying there is something about Gus that makes him come across as a slimy douche. Perhaps it has something to do with his bat shite crazy wife. So while I try to be objective, it’s possible my disdain for him clouds my evaluation.

Yeah, you're right. I mean, when somebody starts a serious, honest thread I wish people would keep it serious and honest. Troll in troll threads and give honest unbiased (as much as possible) answers in serious threads. This seems to be an honest, serious thread.
