This was the year that UA was to be down. They lost too many players to be any good.
Poeple forgot that they had AJ and Mosley, 5year players to be the leaders that it takes to win.
Bama plays the players who work the hardest and you know what that means.
Vinnie S was not a naturally great player, but he out worked those who would take his job .
As far recruiting only 4 of 20 commits are from Alabama.
For the first time since Bryant ,UA is really nation wide.
If he stays every body else is playing for second place ,

I didn't say that, so stop being a douche.
I said the offense overall was pedestrian. And it was. It was straightforward, workmanlike, and relied heavily on the run game. Bama would rack up large numbers against inferior competition, but tended toward the 20s and low 30s in scoring on decent SEC competition. The passing game was mostly done to open up the run, and the team leaned heavily on the defense to control the tempo of the game (and keep the opposing offense off the field to wear down their defense.) This wasn't an attack on Bama, so you can unbunch your panties and acknowledge that, until recently, Bama under Saban ran a very basic style of offense, generally in a straightforward pro set, with quarterbacks like John Parker Wilson and Greg McElroy spending more time providing game managers than potent offensive firepower. The offenses did what they had to do, and it was good enough for national titles and undefeated regular seasons, but the structural and philosophical similarities to LSU were undeniable. They had excellent talent on the run and on the o-line (especially in run-blocking) but talent is what makes an offense effective, not what makes it particularly creative or threatening.

If Alabama wins a third national title in a row I don't think anyone will care.
If Alabama goes 14-0 and defeats a team with an impressive resume, then no doubt there should be no question.
Defeating Ohio State in the national championship wouldn't be gratifying. No, Alabama has to shut up Florida State or Oregon.

Yea discount 2007 where we lost by 7 in Sabans first year and we are 4-2 vs. LSU with one of the loses a 9-6 OT loss we revenged.

I can agree with this and the next few Alabama posters.
I'm glad we could come to an understanding.
I respect the Alabama football program and wanted to be sure that you all weren't elevating your team to a level they hadn't reached.

Look at Saban's recruiting classes at Alabama and you'll see the main difference:
Alabama Recruiting Rankings:
2009 #1
2010 #5
2011 #1
2012 #1
If you have the same quality of athletes Saban has on roster, he's VERY beatable. If you don't, good luck.
Recruiting and fielding very discipline teams is what separates him from the others

He does a lot of things really well. One of those things is keep some things quiet. Nobody cheats as well as Saban.

I am seeing the same traits in Malzahn to be honest.
Being a Wing-T guy (a good chunk of his offense is based on some wing t principles) I've always hated rooting against Malzahn. He is a really great coach.

A very secret HGH program.

1. Loves to recruit and is good at it.
2. Loves to teach.
3. Actually very smart. He and Belichek talk once a week or so on football. He's running the Patriots defense or a variation at the college level.
4. Tough on discipline.
5. Pays attention to EVERY detail regardless of the score. Demand, repeat... demands or commands, a high level of attention from his players.

The secret is in the defense. He somehow teaches 18-20 defenders a year to think the way he thinks.
Hellen Keller could start at tailback and Alabama could compete for titles because their defense is smarter than everyone else's. They're more talented than everyone else and they're smarter than everyone else. Saban is a world class teacher, that's why he's the best. The worlds greatest football genius is a worthless coach if he can't teach his knowledge to the guys on the field. There are 11 extensions of nick Saban on the field every Saturday. Sometimes they slip up on their assignment, because they are only amateurs in the craft that they're learning, but 90% of the time there are 11 extremely talented nick sabans playing defense at Alabama.
Also, I'm sure it's been mentioned but fear is a great motivator. If you frick up at Alabama, Johnny 5 star will take your spot and never look back. The kids have to buy in, they don't have a choice.

It isn't recruiting. LSU, Florida, Georgia, even Auburn have all had top quality recruiting classes for multiple years. They haven't been able to sustain that level of dominance.
Yes it is.

Their defense gave up more yards one game than any other team in Alabama history. One guy even had over 500 yards...

You cited one example. Good fricking job

So you just get to discount it because it doesn't completely support your narrative? If you're going to make a bold statement, you need to be able to explain contradictory examples. If you want to say that game is an anomaly because it was against the greatest football player of all time, I can maybe buy it, but you have to account for all the evidence at hand.

I'm glad a UGA fan can be the authority on this subject since you have so much experience in awesomeness.

The defense played like shite against A&M no doubt. But one game doesn't break up a narrative. Alabama has allowed only 2 touchdowns to be scored on them in the six games since September 14.

They won though...sorry for being better than A&M at football by a very large margin.

You said the offense struggled up until last year. If that's the case then Alabama's offense has REALLY struggled for the last 40 years because stats like the ones Alabama put up in 2009 and 2010 hadn't been seen in Tuscaloosa since...ever.
