then so will Cochran.

That's the big one.
SEC Championship:
545 yards rushing versus what was the SEC's #2 rushing defense was no fluke.
Scoring 59 and winning by 17 was no fluke.
Dorial Green-Beckham's first touchdown pass should have been overturned, and Missouri had a defensive score. The better team won, and the score was closer than it should have been.

Iron Bowl:
Aside from terrible play on Cooper's 99 yard touchdown reception, Auburn held Alabama's offense in check for the second half. Cyrus Jones would return the favor. A few moments later, Gus decided to put a return man in the end zone on Alabama's long field goal attempt. Alabama's linemen did not execute proper field goal coverage. The 109 yard return was not a fluke; it was just the second big instance of Auburn executing better than Alabama in the final minute of the game. Neither team played their best game, and both teams left points on the field. Auburn took advantage of Alabama's countless errors to win the ball game; they found a way to win.

The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry:
Auburn managed to blow a 20 point lead in the fourth quarter and shift momentum to Georgia. Aaron Murray was credited with a touchdown that should have been overturned. Despite the awful 4th quarter performance, Auburn won and is the better team. Auburn executed better than Georgia on "The Prayer in Jordan-Hare". There were several things wrong with the safeties' execution on that play.

Texas A&M:
People want to talk about a horse collar tackle and Manziel being injured. Coates beat Everett twice before the end of the second half but Marshall and he didn't connect for the touchdown. Manziel and Evans ended up scoring after Auburn's failure. The misplaced throw and dropped pass could have provided a 14 point swing in the score. Regardless, Auburn made up for that and still found a way to win the game.

Ole Miss:
Auburn never trailed Ole Miss and built their lead as high as 17 points. Auburn executed better than Ole Miss that night and is the better team. There's really not much to debate regarding this game.

Mississippi State:
Auburn overcame a -3 turnover margin and held Mississippi State's offense in check during the second half to win the ball game. Auburn's current offense hadn't been implemented when this game was played. Auburn is the better team.

Washington State: It was the season opener, but Auburn's dominant second half defense showed up for this game and made enough stops for an Auburn victory.

As a Georgia fan, I'm disappointed that another rival of ours is competing for their second national championship in a 4 year period. My team has never made it to the BCS Championship or gone undefeated during the BCS era. Auburn did enough on the field to potentially get there 3 times in the past decade. They couldn't beat the system in 2004. 14-0 in 2010. Now they've got a shot to defeat the greatest team in the country. I'm not rooting for Florida State or Auburn. Georgia won't be there, so I don't care about the outcome of that game. Georgia had their shot to stop Auburn from being there and failed in embarrassing fashion.

Auburn has a good football team. If they can start building good defenses again, then they will become an elite program. One season proves nothing. We'll have to wait and see if they can sustain this success and build on this season's accomplishments.

Auburn fans, your team won the SEC Championship. This isn't a new experience for you. Please show some maturity and act like you follow one of the SEC's best teams this season. Everyone's looking at you, and you aren't going to gain much respect with the way some of you have been acting here. Let this thread validate you. Celebrate your program's turnaround. I know most Auburn fans were probably satisfied with this season weeks ago, and things have just gotten better.

Have a happy holidays! I look forward to our teams' meeting next season.

I had great confidence in the mighty Tigers until I start reading all the posts on the Tiger Rant. Now, I am much less confident.

Why are you less confident? Do you really trust the sentiments and emotions of anonymous, online strangers on a site like this?

On the bright side, you may be pleasantly surprised if you keep your expectations low.

There is no excuse for Todd Grantham and the defensive staff; look no further than 2009 and 2010 Alabama. 2009 Alabama featured an SEC-caliber defense, it was pretty good; some may call it elite. 2010 Alabama only returned 2 starters from 2009 and had to deal with various players being injured, yet they weren't anywhere near as bad as Georgia and LSU this season. 2010 underachieved during the regular season, but they were still respectable. When the 2010 Alabama defense was healthy and gave it their all, they embarrassed Big 10 co-champion Michigan State 49-7.

I think everyone seems to be forgetting the difference between a W and an L for us.

An L we drop to 5-3, Eastern hopes gone, at best we get 8-9 wins and a Peach Bowl or something.

With a win our Eastern title hopes are alive and well. On top of that it was against the #5 ranked team in the country, on the road, and came back from 17 down late and scored our first ever OT win.

So yeah, we're happy. Our road schedule is done. We finish with 4 home games where we've won 14 in a row, good for 2nd in the nation.

It was a season saver. Or at least a season preserver for the time being.

 Thanks for sharing your perspective. As a Georgia fan, a win like yours would not excite me. Even though our program has not gotten over the hump, we still hold ourselves to higher standards and expectations.

We're all happy for you, Gamecocks.

That does not include me.
Let them enjoy this victory; some may realize that they soon may fall to 5th place in the SEC East.

Folks, let's remember that this is the program with the most lopsided loss in SEC Championship history, 0 SEC titles, 0 BCS bowl appearances, 0 national championships, 2 11 win seasons all time, a laughable all time time winning percentage, embarrassing WTF losses every season, etc.

Will you let it go?
I know you're worried that you'll return to the bottom half of the SEC soon but take those concerns to the Cock board.

Kickers should relish the opportunity to win a game for the team; it's a rare opportunity. Nevertheless, they shouldn't be blamed for it coming to that point.
Who picked up the slack?
Georgia is perennially overranked. South Carolina can't finish a season without a WTF game (2010 Kentucky, 2011 Auburn, 2012 Florida, 2013 Tennessee) and 2 or more losses. Mississippi State and Ole Miss have been in the SEC West cellar during this run. Arkansas' offense was good for a few years, but Bobby Petrino neglected the defensive side of the ball, which is the more important side. Alabama has won 4 of the last 5 versus Auburn teams that finished (5-7, 8-5, 8-5, and 3-9). In 2008 and 2009, it was just Alabama and Florida. Check the SEC standings.

I won't even touch 2010; I know what was up with that season; however, you must consider that 2010 was the strongest the West had ever been and for multitude of legit reasons/excuses, Alabama finished 4th in the SEC West with one of their most talented rosters ever. The 2011 defense returned 10 starters from the 2010 defense. The defense that showed up in the Capital One bowl versus Michigan State should have been playing at the level earlier in the season.

I can go on and on. Alabama's dynasty is neat, but it's not all time great. Also, look at Alabama's wins in the previous two seasons. I get that Alabama has proven in the championship games that they've belonged there, but look at their performance versus highly ranked opponents during the regular season. In the 2011 regular season, Alabama was 1-1 versus teams that finished the season ranked in the Top 25. In 2012, Alabama was 2-1 during the regular season versus Top Ranked SEC opponents, which is all that matters since we're discussing Alabama's SEC dominance. Those 2 wins were by a margin of 8 points and both included late go ahead touchdowns.

Dude, they're still the frontrunner in the SEC East.
Don't give them material to bump if they make it to Atlanta.

re: 4th and 15 TD in OT GIF

That was a coaching error.
Missouri's secondary was getting torched last night. Missouri would have been better off putting all their players in the end zone or double covering the receiving targets than that. :casty:
Blame it on the secondary and linebackers that allowed South Carolina to pass for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns.
quote:

Bob Stoops has won eight conference championships. Does that make him a better coach than Saban? Spurrier won six SEC championships in a time when the SEC was down. LSU was a mess, Georgia was down, South Carolina was a joke and Arkansas was mediocre. All of those teams have had at least one top 10 finish since Saban has been at Bama. Since 2007, all of those teams have had multiple top 15 finishes. The level of competition Saban has had to deal with is so much tougher than what Spurrier had to go through at Florida.

Uh no, I've already stated that Saban by far is the best coach; however, the guy did bring up a good point. During this run, Saban's teams have only won the conference 1/3 of the time; that's hardly dominant. Also, the time frame of this dynasty just so happens to include Florida (2010, 2011) and LSU's (2008, 2009) down years. The dynasty hadn't begun in 2006, but LSU, Auburn, and Florida were good then.

Florida and LSU's runs weren't as good as Saban's right now, but Alabama has benefited from the dropoff of the the previous teams that ran the conference. Don't act like Alabama was responsible for the decline of Florida, Auburn, or LSU either.
quote:

Steve Spurrier also coached in a time when there was no parity in the SEC. There were essentially 3 teams in the SEC during the early and mid-90s.

1. Florida
2. Tennessee

3. Alabama

All of the other teams in the conference ranged from average to downright terrible. And as dominant as Florida was during this period, they were only the second best team in the state of Florida.

Upvote. Furthermore, they've only got one national championship to show for it.
You really can't hold the 1995 season national championship against them, but despite running the conference, Florida only had one national championship to show for it despite the lack of parity then.
quote:

Don't believe it? Just go look at his record at Michigan State.

There's a problem with holding Saban's Michigan State and LSU days against him. Some people think that he needs elite talent, control, and the best resources to win big, yet they're basing that off the years when Saban was still developing "the process". Honestly, do you think Saban hasn't learned anything since he left LSU? Is he the same coach he was back in the 90's when he coached at Michigan State?

The notion that he hasn't developed as a coach over the past two decades is absurd. Alabama isn't perfect, and the same is true for all other programs. Alabama may have to adjust to the rising unpopularity of pro-style offenses and player safety rules.
quote:

2 conference titles in 6 years is "dominating"? Steve Spurrier LOLs at that notion.

Upvote.

Hope we can pull a Georgia and sneak in.

Uh, not exactly. Georgia isn't losing because of their schedule. Georgia is a decimated team struggling against teams they would dominate if they were at full strength. This season isn't comparable to 2011 and 2012. For another reason, Georgia actually won the head-to-head versus South Carolina. Unlike the past two seasons where South Carolina shite the bed in winnable games versus Florida and Auburn, Georgia has just had too much adversity to reasonable overcome.
