Harsin inherited a much better team than most first year coaches do.

What was the narrative relative to the talent on the team?
You returned a seasoned 3rd yr starter at QB, an experienced oline, a got damn stud at RB, the whole WR platoon was green. Returned an experienced kicker. Defense needed to plug holes and the coaches racked up in the portal to fill defensive needs.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of programs and it seems Harsin doesn't have it on the trail

You sure about that? Harsin absolutely killed it recruiting the transfer portal this off-season. The transfers he recruited are almost all making huge impacts on this team, no way we'd be as competitive as we have without Harsin's recruiting

The narrative this off-season on tRant is that Auburn would be suck, be lucky to finish .500, and be 6 or 7 in the West

We all know you were here posting in those threads, don't play dumb now

I didn't post shite about Auburn, I'd never paid attention to Boise State football or even knew who coached on that staff.

They're stagnant. Bryan Harsin is about as good a coach as Gus Malzahn was, except he can't recruit.

If anything, they're trending down due to poor recruiting

I honestly think Harsin has done a heck of a job. Players seem to be developing way more than in the past. Defensively they are really good.

There have been a couple of stinker games but they seem to be the outliers. They played aTm toe to toe til Bo kinda lost it. I don’t look forward to going there with the way Alabama is playing.

That said, recruiting will tell the tale on auburn.

Maybe one day you will share what Bryan Harsin really did to you.

Because it's impossible I'm right?

The good news is - we get to watch it all happen over the next 2.5 years.

He's a good coach but I'm not sure he has the right personality for being at a major program in the SEC. Reminds me of McElwain.

Sooo is going after the transfer portal good or bad for Auburn?

I would say it's a necessary thing. We lose the majority of linemen we have to graduation this year and there is really nobody behind them. in this case, thank goodness that the portal IS an option because it would take 5 years to dig out from Gus' mess otherwise

IMO Harsin is a quality coach. Big question will be recruiting.

AU has three more games that they can win. Going 9-3 in year one is strong.

Bookmark for end of the regular season. Beating Bama will get the man a lot of love.

I agree. Harsin is a good coach and he needs more time. Auburn is lagging in the NIL department but there is finally a strategy now.

Generally, Auburn is Wake Forest/Virginia on steroids (not a huge school / or the only state flagship university when compared to some other SEC schools but dedicated to athletics). Middle of the pack SEC with great history and some real upside potential. We really need to fix NIL, drop UA and become a Nike school. The new FB facility will be amazing (Oregon level). However, I am not sure if it really makes a difference in the SEC.

Wrong. he was fired less than 2 weeks before EARLY signing day. And left us with a class in the 80s. He quit recruiting last season and he did it on purpose.

You were wrong about Boise too when you said his first year was his best.

Just curious why you are so invested in him? At least Lefty seemed to have lost his focus on Harsin. But not you...

Really? Most predicted (not you) a sub .500 season.

quote:

You returned a seasoned 3rd yr starter at QB

Certainly not how most described him. Bo Pix ring a bell?
quote:

an experienced oline

Most Ranters said it was the worst O-line in the last decade.
quote:

a got damn stud at RB,

He was overrated.
quote:

the whole WR platoon was green

true, and not a lot of stars in that bunch

quote:

Defense needed to plug holes and the coaches racked up in the portal to fill defensive needs.

Most of the rant said the defense was gutted and pointed to losses like Big Kat (LOL) being the end of Steele's decent defense.

I saw many Ranters claim this Auburn team was the least talented they could remember. I know you didn't say all this, but you've been around long enough to know what I'm saying is correct.

Auburn is 100% winning the IB this year, so they got that going for them.

If Auburn wants to keep him around for 9 years so he can match his best year of 12-2, that's cool with me.
