IMHO I don't believe he's that good at X & O"s. He's the best there is at recruiting though.

How else can a coach have the number 1 recruiting ranking for so long and not win it all every year?

I still believe he's the best college coach around (urban is close if not better) but look no further than what he did in the nfl to see its because of his recruiting.

Aside from short jokes and all the little Debbie stuff, he's a coach any team would love t have but they're several coaches I'd choose before him under the circumstances that he has to play the game with players he didn't recruit himself.

With all that being said when I hear nick Saban I think winner. Doesn't matter how IMO.

Inherited a Gerry DiNardo LSU team that had gone 3-8 the previous year... Went 8-4 in his first year and won the SEC Championship in his 2nd year.

Went 7-6 with the least talented Bama team in 40 years in 2007... Took UGA to overtime, and LSU down to the final seconds. Had an undefeated regular season and finished 12-2 in 2008 with a team full of players he didn't recruit and John Parker Wilson at QB.

Living proof of the old saying it is sometimes better to be lucky than to be good.

Saban is lucky that his buddy runs NCAA and he has ignored half the bammer football team driving around in cars they can not afford

Lucky that Colt MCCoy was injured in 2009

Lucky they were given a 2nd chance against LSU in 2011

Lucky that Oregon choked in 2012

Lucky that a bammer grad is in charge of the SEC referees

Lucky that Tennessee had the worst run in their history during his tenure at Alabama

Lucky that any decent non conference team bammer schedules magically turns to shite the year bammer plays them

Lucky that the last decent team bammer played from the east during the regular season was South Carolina back in 2010
