Is there much difference between the Billy Mays of Coaching and Heupel?

At the very least, it's a push.

LSU…2001

Our AD, administration, and boosters, assisted by Kiffin bailing after the hiring season, broke us. Following that debacle with a panic hire and then more bad hires kept us there. Only LSU fans think about that game. We lost that game because we were so hyped after beating Florida that we overlooked LSU.

When Ronnie Brown destroyed Allen in 2004, he took the whole team’s manhood. Never been the same since.

Also, Georgia the following week at Neyland was brutal.

* I was thinking of 2003.

What do you think about 2005?

The coulda woulda shoulda for that team will be an endless debate.

The stretch of losses against Georgia, Bama, USC and Notre Dame was just brutal.

Then the loss to Vandy was a kick in the nuts while you're on the ground reeling.

Hamilton, Dollar Store Dave Hart, Currie and Papi.

How many programs could survive under these folks?

That's not counting incompetent chancellors.

Looking at you Booger eating Jimmy Cheek.

Yeah, you'd think the OP would recognize that Saban broke them.

I was there to see it in person and it was magnificent.

They use to be a top team. So what happened to them? Since those days they seem to be broken.

Was it Nick Saban coming to Tuscaloosa?

Lane Kiffin abandoning them after one season?

Butch Jones years?

Fulmer’s bad karma biting the Vol nation in the arse?

Derek Dooley, although you can also blame the AD.

I know(well knew, haven't heard from him in a few years now) someone in the Tennessee AD and apparently Dooley was especially bad. And then the entire staff knew they were all going to be fired, so they didn't give a crap about anything, and spent more time looking for their next job than they did trying to win football games, recruit, etc.

They changes the culture of the program in the process with the players, accountability etc.

Since I heard those stories, I no longer blame teams for firing coaches as soon as they know. Like USC firing Helton this early was the right thin to do. The rest of the staff can stay interested and work towards positions on the new team etc.

Tennessee waited until mid November.

Butch was a much more likeable guy from what I understand, but I never really got the dirt on him as I haven't spoken to that source since Butch was fired. However, his recruiting class rankings were always BS and not as good as advertised. And their schedules lead to a bunch of bs hype as well.

And then at the fork of - some hope left, and no hope at all left, Clay Travis gets a good coach run off, their AD fired and they end up hired Fulmer. Fulmer hating Alabama more than anything else in the world, decides to hire Alabama's DC to hurt Alabama, while also looking at him as a puppet.

And now they've hired a guy who didn't do well at UCF for some reason.

Most be terrible for Tennessee fans, but after the shite they gave in the 00's, this is some delicious pie to me.

Isn't this the narrative we always here? I think it started here. Fulmer went full circle. He ended up getting fired after Saban came to town and beat their asses.

Nope...Saban joining the SEC wasn't Fulmer's undoing...it was losing Cutcliffe.

With Cutcliffe, Fulmer was 86-19 (82%); Without Cutcliffe he was 66-33 (67%).

Dooley was an absolute disaster.

In addition to the things you mentioned was the self imposed 350 mile recruiting zone from Knoxville.

Or faking health issues.

Wasn't that the season Fulmer kept switching back & forth between Ainge & Clausen? Man that was a head scratcher.
