The conference championship game doesn’t mean near as much as it used to during the BCS days. Once the playoffs expand to either 8 or 12 teams, the conference championship games will be pointless to play in. Look at 2017. Bama gets a bye week while everyone else plays championship games. Now this year UT could end up getting and not playing in the game.

How good are the Vols without Hendon Hooker? Do they beat Bama? No. Do they beat Pitt? No.
The Vols are lucky to have him, and he's gone after this year. Who do the vols have in the pipeline? Are they going to just assume they can plug and play from the portal? Because history is starting to show us that's usually the exception to the rule, and most transfers bust.

There were multiple P5 champs with at least 2 losses in 2017.
Bama still won a share of their division.

Only conference champions will be eligible for first round byes in the playoff.
So... it matters some. It would have mattered a lot more last year for UGA than it actually did... but that was because enough of the other conference champions were already 2-loss teams when UGA took the field.

It is a great season dumbass. We aren't a team full of 5 stars like bama uga and LSU. We are exceeding expectations big time. My god the entire SEC rant has gone full retard mode.
