SEC Conflict of Interest Policy prohibits officials from overseeing a game at a school where they were previously enrolled.

Their inability to figure out how to call targeting equally between teams or even from game to game makes me doubtful meaningful improvement is possible.

There’s no way to perfect a craft that you get to practice just 12 or 13 times per year. Imagine if your team could only have virtual practice via video meetings and just study film and discuss strategy, except on Saturdays, 12-13 times per year.

Baseball makes money at only a handful of schools. Who’s going to pay those guys as full-time officials.?

And anybody with a good day job is not going to want to get into something full-time that can get him fired and force him to start his old day Job from scratch if they will even rehire him.

They would be full time and spend the week officiating practices. This works in the NFL. Why do you think it wouldn't work at the college level?

Uh... the conference gets $60 million for the head office. They can invest in full time officials.

Many NFL officials hold full time jobs besides officiating. Perhaps have better standards.

NCAA has time limits for practice. Coaches would be annoyed with penalty flag interruptions.

Practices are not nearly as intense as games. Too much injury risk.

Do you really thinks it “works” in the NFL?
People bitch groan Moab about NFL guys too.

So pay them a full time annual salary for working 12-14 days a year. Are you fricking high?

So the same as the players who are making several million dollars a year?

The SEC office gets an equal share of everything… TV revenue, bowl money, etc… divide it all up by 17 basically and the SEC gets the same amount as each school.

Oh, and according to their most recent filings, they are sitting on about half a billion dollars that has just accumulated over time and never goes to anything. It just sits and draws interest.

So yes, they can afford officials who don’t work at Dicks Sporting Goods as their day job.

Funny, we have refs and instant replay, and some of you whiny beeches still complain. You take your rudimentary knowledge of football, and think you know more than officials who've been training for officiating all of their professional lives. You're too stupid to know how stupid you are. Officiating is much, much, much more accurate than it's ever been. Now get me some warmer fries.

we're not talking about a large group of people, and the money involved is huge.
You can put them to work for the SEC during the year, maybe meeting with coaches in the off-season to do some quality control. But it's essential to get the calls right in a timely manner.
