Depends.
The games were usually awful. Florida walked all over Tennessee. If u were a fan of florida or Tennessee it probably was a big deal.
No, the iron bowls have been much more entertaining but I'm also biased.

SC-Mizzou.
A series of epic chokes, beat downs, and some of the shittiest football you’ve seen.

Iron bowl from 1981 to 1997. 17 consecutive years of it being a 1 score game in the 4th quarter.
12/17 ended within 1 score.
The only 5 games that were not decided by one score.
1981 - Bama by 11. AU led at half and may have led in the 4th. Not sure, but Pat Dyes first AU team ran out of gas in the 4th and Bear got his only win vs Dye (#315).
1987 - AU 10-0. Dominant AU team that finished the season with 1 loss.
1989 - First time at Jordan Hare. #2 Bama had no chance that day.
1992 - Stallings NC team, but the score was only 7-0 until a late Langham pic 6 put it away.
1993 - 22-14. Perfect undefeated AU team won in the second iron bowl played at Jordan Hare (1991 was played in bham).

Some of my all time favorite Sec games. A lot of parallels to Bama-LSU until recently. Game decides who wins the Sec everywhere year and who will go to the national championship, one team fires long time successful coach towards the end and declines to mediocrity.

Some Georgia-Auburn matches in the 90s had the SEC title on the line. Same for some of the WLOCP games.

Obviously not SEC but the Ten Year War between Ohio State and Michigan would be up there nationally.

The series between UT vs UF was awesome and a NATIONAL game.
Most of the posters on this board were either not born or in diapers.
You have to understand the history first...UF and UT did not schedule each other much at all in the 1950-60s. Back in those days UF played UGA & AU back to back.
And you have to remember that even with the SEC constricting to ten teams when Ga Tech & Tulane left..we still didn't play UT until 1969 in the Gator Bowl (yes back in those days it was common to have SEC teams match up in bowls)...UF won the game and the UT head coach was Doug Dickey ex QB at UF who promptly took the HC job at UF when Ray Graves retired after the bowl game to become the AD at UF.
Oh and we did play a non SEC Tulane as part of our contract and it counted as SEC game. We also played Ga Tech every year til the early 1980s as part of contract.
Tech was a very good team back in the 1950-60s...plus UGA & AU was a lot. From the 1960s on we seldom played Vandy or Bama. In 1963-64 we played Bama twice at Tucsaloosa and upset them once. (how did the hell did we get suckered into two road trips?) Didn't play Bama again til 1970s.
Vandy & UT came on our schedule a lot more in the 1970-80s. When the conference expanded in 1992 we of course played UT every year. In 1992 Spurrier had a weaker team, relied a lot on passing til we could run draws. UT wrecked our shite in 1992 & so did Moo State...both road games. Spurrier righted the ship, UT imploded and lost three SEC games and we beat UGA to go the first SECCG vs Bama, but they were eventual NC that year and we tried our best..no shame. From then on the SEC rivalry with UT was born. Fulmer vs Spurrier.

The 2001 UT/UF game is one of the 5 best SEC games I have ever watched. Those were two great teams playing their A game on the same day. That is rarely seen in college football.
Florida was missing our feature back that game. Think it changes outcomes had we played when scheduled. Damn terrorist. As for the Rivalries..I'm sure there are better. Shoot..FSU vs UF was a better one at the same time.
